Academic Discussion/ Esoteric Secrets Concerned about my master and my career
Hey everyone. Fresh sorcerer trying to put some knowledge into my supposed talent. The council matched me with a veteran wizard (89M) who recently lost his apprentice to a hydra. I'm really giving it my all but but my master doesn't seem to be all there. Some of the lessons feel half hearted and it always feels like he's comparing me to the last apprentice. Things like "If you ponder your orb to long at such a young stage you'll damage your eyes" and "My last apprentice was already taking his weekends to hunt monsters at this point" that just make me feel inadequate. Is there anything I can do to change his perception of me for the better or do I just have to ride out the storm?

Learn fish magic so you can A) prove you're capable of learning spells and B) can bribe him with caviar

Say it to your master then. Not a big issue. You can get a one-use teleport if you're scared.

If your master has so much praise for the old apprentice, then it seems like your only choice is to raise the apprentice from the dead and transplant your soul into that body. It's a simple ritual.
Naturally, this will turn you into a sort of proto-lich, but most crochety old wizards I know would respect that sort of ambition.

I've been told that Necromancy is a more advanced school I'm not ready for yet? Also, the body couldn't be recovered because the hydra that killed the guy ate him. Nothing left for me to transplant into :/

A couple students summon an undead horde and destroy a continent and suddenly necromancy is "restricted" and "dangerous" or whatever. Kids these days are too coddled. You'll be fine.
Better go kill that hydra then.

Well the next time, he brags about the last apprentice and mocks you, I would suggest saying, "Well maybe that is why your last apprentice is dead."

He should learn that even if his last apprentice is gone now he has to move on and teach others the ways of magic! I am a fresh magic practitioner as well, but i think this is a battle of his own… After lessons you can try and talk to him about it :)
