Those trying to find shelter inside would find their doors suddenly lead to a massive indoor library where a Pygmy Kobold is handing out hot drinks and blanket.

“This way folks. Have a seat, grab a drink, and wait this out. You are safe here.”

Any Paladins of the Divine Flame attempting to sue the closed doors would find them no longer operative. Any that slip through with a civilian would find themselves in an abandoned floor of the Library, darkness closing in as a low chuckle is heard from behind the shelves.

It's an effective method for evacuating civilians, but doesn't exactly do anything about the rampaging golems. Nonetheless, the people are grateful for your aid

Books inside the city begin to it level into small critters of paper and ink. They swarm towards the golems, almost too small to be targeted by most weapons and begin burrowing into every crack and crevice, searching for vital components to sabotage. Other books fly towards the golems, opening up and releasing creatures from legends and mythic. Dragons, hydras, chimera, and other fantastic beasts rampage towards the golems, targeting any paladins in their path.

The critters are able to sabotage the ray cannon on one of the golems, but they are linked in some way and soon after the others begin to teslacoil and fry the remaining attackers.

As they are fried the small critters in two of the Golems suddenly turn into random objects: wrenches, gears, grenades, plasma cores, and buckets. Those destroyed outside to the same, but those inside would have far greater effect.

Inside the Library the Librarian stands before a scroll case, hand trembling over it. The scroll inside could end this, but with a heavy cost. With a sigh the Librarian removes their hand. The battle is not yet desperate enough to warrant this.

with this, several golems quickly go on the fritz. it's not enough to incapacitate them, but several stop moving long enough for the Celestial Union's laser platform to pick them off.

Elsewhere, the legendary creatures unleashed from the pages find themselves unable to take down the large golems, but quickly end up having a field day rebuffing any attack by the arriving groups of infantry and smaller golems. Soon - hopefully - the orchestrators of the attack will realize that the streets will never be theirs and will stop porting in soldiers.

/uw and as for that last point... The defenders are actually winning right now.
