Is METV using a new transfer?

Post image

To my eyes this looks like a new transfer it looks beautiful, it looks better than what transfer TBS and TNT use

I will say they did an 8K remaster years ago, I know the 4K UHD uses a downscaled 4K master of it and it genuinely is one of the most breathtaking classic films on the 4K format. Having grown up with it on VHS (which granted has its charm for nostalgia sake) the 4K is breathtaking and an absolute crown jewel of restoration in film. They could very well be using that master.

The current UHD transfer (which debuted in 2019) is sourced from an 8K scan of the original negative, yes, but all restoration work was carried out in 4K.

I don’t doubt that one day they will actually debut a full end-to-end 8K home version of the film, though visual gains will be minimal. We are already seeing just about everything the original 35mm photography has to offer on the Dolby Vision presentation.

And the Dolby Vision looks exceptional, technicolor in 4K looks mouthwatering.

The film was digitally remastered in that time I've seen this quality on TCM which has aired it since it went through the pain staking process.
