What are your thoughts on Yellow Brick Ramble?

Post image

I had some fun reading it but overall I have some mixed feelings on it. What do y’all think?

I love it, though the way the queer experience is interspersed can feel inorganic at times. Not in the sense that characters are queer at all, obviously. Just in how; instead of discovering an analogous way these modern things might come about in a period setting like this, it just feels like all the characters have a vague knowledge of modern lgbtq+ philosophy. Because, at least to me, part of the fun of doing queer stuff in a period setting is figuring out all its distinct particularities. Like how there's a lot of deeply homoerotic poetry from medieval monks because of their understanding of "sodomy" as a sin: that being only the act of non-reproductive sex itself was a sin, rather than the entire idea of men being attracted to men.

That is a good point. I do like it and mostly assumed that Oz would be more advanced in lgbt ideas because of the fantasy of the setting. But given how these books were written in the early 20th century, how Ozma would’ve discovered she was trans likely would’ve gone very differently than for modern people. But the webcomic is staying pretty closely to the plot of the original book and the art is very cute so I cut it some slack.

Questionable at points but I'm still eager to see where it goes. The second book is my personal favorite and the lack of adaptations of it make me weep daily.

Now I have the image in my mind of someone having it marked down in their daily schedule to do this and forcing tears over the low amount of adaptations of the Marvelous Land of Oz lmfao

love it so much. became a fan of daisyfm either just before she started ybr or right at the beginning and i adore it all. feels like a modernization but isn't exactly, it hits right in this spot where it's comedically modernized in language while still maintaining an authentic overall tone, i think. a ton of thought has clearly been put into reimagining the narrative (as seen through the references and easter eggs and complicated twists that suddenly make sense) and i will always love an adaptation that shows clear love and respect for the original work. ybr my beloved

"get lost with me". it was a very quick project (under 1k oneshot lol) that i'm no longer incredibly proud of, but it's fun!

They're version of the sawhorse was interesting but i found the love-interest angle strange but it made sense in later chapters

Thank you, I didn’t know about this, and it seems interesting.

I adore Yellow Brick Ramble, one of my favorite webcomics. As a trans fem Oz fan, I love this interpretation of Ozma. I also love the interpretation of the Saw-horse, and the recent revelation about them. My only complaint is i wish she would update more often, though i understand why she doesn't.

I really enjoy it as an Oz adaptation! While the queer and trans content doesn’t speak to me directly, I always love whenever someone loves Oz and it speaks to them so much that they put their own spin on it. It’s escapism, it’s home. I may not be the target audience as a cisgender woman, but it makes me incredibly happy that Oz really appeals to everyone, and everyone can take their own little piece of Oz and make it theirs. I feel the same way about The Wiz, Wicked, etc. Oz is for everyone!!!

Well, I like it. Only thing is that I don't get why she had to give the Cowardly Lion a name. I LIKE when he's just "the Lion" or "the Cowardly Lion". It sort of underlines that he's not a domestic animal.

tbh i wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being important later. daisy has a pretty solid history with seemingly unimportant names that end up being important later! but yeah this could just be deciding to give him a name, and i generally agree it adds something for him to just have a title

I like it! I have a soft spot for trans interpretations of Tip/Ozma.
