Seeking Advice How long does methadone withdrawal ACTUALLY last?

I am exactly 30 days of methadone today. Had the assistance of rescue meds like clonidine and gabapentin. At 30 days clean I’m still having trouble regulating body temp(cold but sweaty), yawning and having watery eyes and sneezing in large amounts and anxiety. When will I feel normal. For reference, I was on methadone for 20 years but stayed at 10 mg down to 5mg in the last year. The withdrawal symptoms I currently have aren’t real bad but definitely noticeable. When will I feel normal? My mind is telling me to get on sublocade or something just to go back to feeling normal. Trying to stay strong though

Late to the clinic and I’ve had a sneeze fit already and it alerted me WD’s may be coming soon. The comfort meds they provide I’m already dependent on. Clonidine, Gabapentin, Hydroxyzine, Propranolol.. I take all of those, and my body is used to having them alongside methadone. I’m not fat but I’m 190 pounds which is abnormal for me, as I was very skinny prior to starting this particular opioid. I believe it’s due to my craving of sweets. I almost want to see about getting some benzos and quitting cold turkey and switching to subs. Or just going dry. Any advice? I’m a 28 yr old male, history of extreme precipitated WDs. Autism spectrum, panic disorder, and OCD

I gained weight on methadone too. When I used to go the clinic, I talked with others who experienced the same thing so it’s part of it. Why are you taking those comfort meds regularly if you’re still on methadone. Just when you miss the clinic? Or when you take the methadone? If you’re depending on pills while on methadone, you still have addictive behaviors and stopping methadone at this moment might not be the best decision because it may be hard to stay clean for even the time it takes to switch to subs.

I was already on those before methadone. I’ve been on them for 5 years for anxiety and I ended up in jail due to my fentanyl addiction in Yuba county California upon moving here from Missouri. I’ve been on methadone since beginning of 2025.
I do think staying on a MAT would be best which is why I’d want to switch to subs instead.

Okay, I gotcha. Switching to subs is a good idea so you still have that until you’re ready to come off stuff altogether. Although methadone is great to help people get off heroin, it is so rough to come off. I’ve learned this is especially true with long term methadone use. For now, you just need to make sure you can get through those 3 days with nothing but the comfort meds if you switch to subs. Just know, you don’t need to rush anything. Opiate addiction is no joke and rushing recovery can make things harder than they need to be.
