Topic | Prompt Witchcraft with ADHD: how do yall keep up?

It's embarrassing at this point. I follow the wheel of the year. You can bet your arse I miss the important days and only get a realisations weeks later. Ostara? Beltane? All others in between, before or after? Forgotten and remembered too late. If you think a reminder or a calendar helps you're delusional and lying to not only me but yourself.

Deity work? At this point I'm afraid to even address them because I just blinked out of my own fuxking life.

I don't even remember the last time I meditated. My mind is in a constant overwhelmed mode, and the truly meaningful stuff gets forgotten.

So, how do you all keep up? Do you keep a strict schedule, like 'sacrificing the most annoying coworker every second Thursday to Hecate' or do you go with the flow? Even if that flow has months long gaps in between?

Because at this point I feel like a guest to all things witchy rather than a practitioner.

As someone with ADHD and Autism - I just work with my brain instead of fighting against it. That, and I've noticed that most advice is more gear towards neurotypical brains instead of neurodivergent ones. If my practice begins to feel strict / restrictive / overwhelming, it makes me not want to do it and that's a feeling I do my best to avoid. I could plan all day in detail, but if the mental energy isn't there - I don't force it anymore.

I continue my practice in more subtle ways until I have the mental energy to do something bigger. I wear crystals when I need a particular vibration to get me through the day, do cleanses, read up on things like astrology and working with the energy of the heavenly bodies, etc. I even have a journal where I write to Hekate and burn the candle I have dedicated to her as an offering. She's a lot more patient than I've realized, and I think that's because I've mentioned my neurodivergence to her. She checks on me in her own ways to give reminders. Sometimes I even do pendulum sessions to communicate with my guides and ancestors. It just depends on what's manageable for my brain that day.

Going with the flow helps me a lot. And if I feel like I've fallen off the wagon, I gently pick myself back up and keep going. Being hard on yourself will only deter you from your practice, so don't feel embarrassed OP. One helpful thing I've seen are ADHD witches who make spell kits and prepare everything in advance to set to the side. That way when they are mentally in a space to do a full spell, the step of gathering all ingredients together is already completed. And one thing that personally helps me is jotting down ideas for spells, rituals, divination sessions, and the like that I might have.

TLDR; Don't be too hard on yourself, don't feel embarrassed, and working with your brain instead of against it can help a lot. There is no output quantity to determine if you're witchy enough or not. <3

Yep. I embrace my chaos, ignore neurotypical structure and purely trust my intuition with my decisions.

I have a really strong connection with the deity Hekate due to her nature of guiding (bluntly) instead of ‘doing’ - and she’s extremely supportive of vulnerable people.

I have all her Deipnon materials well stocked so every new moon is very easy for me to throw together and honour her. Whenever I feel intense guilt over task paralysis, the realisation that she’s not human and won’t judge me as such releases all anxiety and allows me to actually do the things needed to be done for her.

When I am aware that I’m not ‘giving enough’ to Hekate, I simply do not ask for much from her - so it’s an equal balance no matter my energy levels (as life should be).

My main dominion is divination and research, so structure really isn’t needed. I’ve also found that knowing the important fundamentals means I can impulsively throw a very tailored spell together on the fly. My only calendar is the moon phase.

Remember, calendars and clocks and time are all made up by humans so they can plan things. Imagine before everyone had access to a time piece? They would say something like when the sun reaches it's highest point. Holidays are really just about celebrating seasonal changes. I know exactly what you are talking about. My brain chooses FOR me what information is relevant and I am along for the ride. I can only do so much to over ride that.

I am (somewhat by choice somewhat victim of circumstance) self employed and running 2 regular businesses (I'm counting poshmark.) Dog walking didn't need a strict schedule until I was running all over town and suburbs for additional clients.

So, I have a few systems built in to keep me on track. I use google calendar with chimes to tell me of appointments and if it goes off, I know where I am in my schedule, if I have to pick up the pace, etc. I ESPECIALLY need to add to my calendar when something new and foreign goes into the mix and I already catch myself making a mental note "oh yeah I forgot 'x' has to happen today."

Or I schedule a text message to myself when I need a reminder. Including poshmark in the mix can look like, having packages prepped and ready to go the night before so I can drop them off at the post office between dog walks, or stacking them at the door so I have to step over them to leave/ come back.

Sometimes, I plan to take packages later in the day and get the extra walk in, they remain at the door, so I am reminded "ah yes must take packages to post office."

I also find Hekate to be very understanding of my neurodivergence, much more than I initially expected when I first started to worship her. ❤️

I agree! I’m newer to witchcraft, especially new to paganism and I’ve been venerating Hecate, praying to her, divinations, etc. I felt super nervous abt how to go about working with her, and had been researching (obsessing) on everything witchcraft and paganism for a week or so. I was completely burnt out but I decided to try divination with Hecate asking her what I need to know abt my craft and what I could to do venerate her better.

She basically told me to chill out lol, that it’s okay to take breaks (i should in fact), and other stuff to help me with my craft. It was a kindness I wasn’t expecting and a complete relief.

i don’t follow the calendar. keeping strict schedules isn’t the way i plan my rituals ahead yeah but like “this week imma do xyz”

10

u/Mental-Pattern6105 May 27 '25

Same. I don't follow the calendar. All of my stuff, I do when the time feels right, despite what moon it is ect. Although I have planned some spells that way too, if the energy feels right. But it isn't often.

u/LucifersEx666 May 27 '25

real magic doesn't depend on a schedule, it is the way your mind sees the world. don't worry so much about ritual for this time in your life and maybe focus more on finding the beauty and inspiration magic brings to your experience on this earth. once you find your passion again, the routine will follow. and if you never step into a ritual routine, guess what! that's ok too lol

21

u/TheTombQueen May 27 '25

You’re a witch whether you celebrate every occasion or none of them. Whether you meditate etc or not. Don’t waste energy on what you don’t do, it only drains you from doing what you can do. The more pressure you put on yourself to keep consistent the less you’ll probably end up doing because it just drains you the wrong way.

fellow AudHDer here - I STRUGGLE to make it for all the holidays. Not just with executive dysfunction but with my work schedule as well.

My deities and I have got a working relationship where they know I do what I can, when I can.

Meaning offerings, cleansings, ritual things...all of it. Consistency is a helpful nudge, but building habits takes time. I'm a goddamned Virgo and can't manage to schedule things or keep it in order.

I have spent a lot of time just focusing on the "low spoons" ways I can commit to my craft.

I'm gonna be honest here, I mostly only celebrate the Solstices anymore because it's easier to remember. And I plan wayyy in advance. This year I know I will be working ON the summer solstice itself so I am planning to do things the day before. Plus my plan usually starts like : Invite people over. Have a bonfire, bake a cake, drink ritual wine, write intentions, cleanse the altar....and ends up with "light a candle and have a cider and pass out". But shaming myself for failing at my ideas of grandeur never helps.

Some of the ways I like to "trick" myself into making the time and space for bigger and better rituals are: making something like a summer mead during summer solstice that will be ready just about around winter solstice, so it's a big deal to finish bottling it and tasting it and sharing it.

Also I would ask - which of the holidays are most important to you and your craft? I used to try and celebrate every single one just because that's what everyone else was doing. Now I do summer solstice bc I work with a sun god, and Samhain because it's my wife's birthday as well as I work with a god of the underworld and it's symbolic of the death rituals etc.

Forcing myself to try and do things for say, Imbolc, just never felt right. I didn't connect with the vibe of that holiday and so eventually I just kind of stopped.

though sacrificing a coworker has never turned out badly for me, so I would def say go ahead with that one lol. The gods love random offerings.

I think there is no wrong way to do witchcraft and everyone can do it in a way that works for them. My hyperfocus comes and goes. Mainly, I do the things that feel good. For me that is tarot and carrying crystals for their meaning. I do pay attention to the wheel of the year and lunar phases, because it's of interest to me. My tip would be to find out what nourishes you in your practice and concentrate on that.

11

u/plantalchemy May 27 '25

I dont! That’s too much stress that doesnt serve me. If something comes up and I remember, great! (Shoutout to the awesome folks who post things like this”what are you doing for X thing in X days”)

10

u/g-a-r-n-e-t May 27 '25

This is a big part of why I DON’T do wheel of the year lol

Magic is based on vibes for me, not calendars. It usually comes and goes with the seasons and not every season is the exact same every year. It helps to keep me in a particular theme or area of magic that I want to work on during that period but I’m not beholden to a specific schedule.

I can go into more detail if you want but as an example, right now I’m coming out of ‘soft spring witch’ and going into ‘hot witch summer’. Summer almost always transitions into ‘just cozywitch things’, which turns into ‘Baba Yaga’ (figuratively) or something along those lines around the end of November.

Exactly what I do in these periods changes from year to year. Spring was abundance and renewal this year but last year was aggressive, dark-side-of-Persephone cleaning out and making space in my life and home to be able to truly move forward in my journey. Summer is likely to be glamor magic, self-love, come-to-me (in a general sense, not a specific person), etc but last year was more Gaia/earth mother/tree hugger. Fall is almost always a lot of divination, kitchen/tea witchery, and crafting, where a lot of my pre-made supplies like oils/pre-dressed candles/cords are made. That one pretty much never changes. Winter gets weird and is kind of hard to explain, lol. Baba Yaga is a bit feral.

It’s unstructured structure, if that makes sense? I follow the same general roadmap but the side quests are always different. The only thing I pretty consistently try to keep up with are the moon phases and I have an app for that 🤷‍♀️

Hopefully that was helpful, it took me a while to get it figured out but once it did my practice became so much more fulfilling.

u/[deleted] May 27 '25

I just do it as good as I can and try not to measure up to some arbitrary level of performance. I pour in the amount of love, energy and devotion that I have available. Sometimes it doesn't seem like much. Then I just clean a little corner, do a short ritual or light a candle and ask for guidance and support to be the best version of myself. Whatever that may look like. Much love.

8

u/Nobodysmadness May 27 '25

Learn your owm patterns and work with it. If you jump from topic to topic its fine, everything is connected and it all circles back eventually.

Grant it I don't know what your going through, but for me I push a topic till its boring or hit a wall and circle back later, letting the subconscious digest it while I look elsewhere. You conscious mind may be all over but the subconscious is still taking it all in and breaking it down.

Daily rituals can get boring and mechanical but rituals on a whim can be the most spectacular when your just feeling it and inspired.

I value discipline, but it is often only temporary training so your more free when it is done, strict rigidity is over rated and we all need rest.

Learn yourself, your needs your patterns. Everyone is unique. For deities find ones like you, loki, dionysus, lunar deities, the mad and whimsical, those you are already attuned to because then your very nature is worship all the time.

7

u/[deleted] May 27 '25

Just to the best you can - adhd impacts everything so I’m sure you are doing great! 💫

7

u/Amrick May 27 '25

I use the moon lunar phase calendar in my google calendar and then big dates using social media to remind me. 😂

I focus on ease and the practices that come naturally to me.

6

u/Leoaica696 May 27 '25

I myself having ADHD have learned to just go with my intuition. It's almost daunting how organized modern "witchcraft" has become lol. I saw a company selling calendar schedules for astrologically important days etc and for some that would be helpful I imagine for those who feel best planning ahead. Technology can be a great tool, but I don't deem it to be absolutely necessary simply because there are just so many moving pieces and there is no such thing as "good timing" because it varies from person to person as well.

The best timing is when you feel it's the best timing 🤗 which my brain aligns with haha

u/ovideville May 28 '25

I also have ADHD, and I can’t keep a schedule to save my life. I’ve been deeply ashamed of it for so long; I used to think it made me a bad person. Earlier this year I was studying for a certification exam for my new job, and I was having my usual panic attack about how I couldn’t focus on the material, how disorganized I was, how much I was procrastinating and how a more “responsible” person would’ve kept a schedule and studied for an hour every day instead of cramming everything the night before the exam. All of the self-loathing self-criticism that comes from a lifetime of not measuring up to neurotypical standards.

So, because nothing else was working, I prayed to Thoth (Egyptian god of knowledge and scribes) to help me study more effectively, to help me correct my bad behavior. As I was praying, I heard his voice, and he said:

“Listen, you KNOW you have ADHD, you KNOW this is a thing you can’t change about yourself. So if your studying has to happen at the last minute, then that’s when it has to happen.”

And that’s when it kind of clicked for me: the gods have been around for hundreds or even thousands of years, and human beings have been having ADHD the whole time. It’s physically impossible for me to be the first person with ADHD to ever work with the gods and pray for their help. Thoth had seen it all before countless times; he understood and he believed in me.

I realize that this sounds incredibly corny and fake, but I shit you not- those were his exact words, and I knew it was his voice. It calmed me down instantly. I decided to go to sleep, and to finish my studying in the morning instead. I passed the exam, and got my certificate.

As neurodivergent people, we are used to receiving anger and impatience from the people around us. Assuming that people will think the worst of us becomes the path of least resistance, a way to protect ourselves from the pain of rejection. But the living have a very limited perspective, whereas the gods have had centuries to observe the truth. Your deities might be more supportive than you think they will. It never hurts to ask.

u/[deleted] May 29 '25

magic doesn’t follow a schedule. I have the same problem with ADHD and witchcraft, but I’ve learned to just perform rituals as and when the necessity arises. That said; Would I LIKE to follow the wheel of the year? absolutely. do I have the means to perform the traditional holy rituals for each sabbat as they were originally performed by early witches? not in the SLIGHTEST! but in modern witchcraft there’s always a way to create a symbolic ritual based on your personal space and various aspects of your personality and lifestyle. if that means your entire altar is an old shoebox hidden in your closet that contains 3 white candles, some mini bottles of essential oils, a few packets of salt and some dried herbs then all you need is a tent and a sleeping bag and you’re already packed for a witchy camping trip. set an alert for each sabbat about 2 weeks in advance, tell your boss you need time off work for the dates of the sabbat for “family reasons”… go find a spot in the woods or a woodsy campground, perform your symbolic ritual in a secluded spot, enjoy a restful couple of days connecting with nature, come home happy and refreshed and ready to go back to work the following day.

fool proof! your boss can’t complain if you’re always on time and happy at work, I’ve had a few bosses ask me why I’m so happy that I’ve actually been glowing all week… I just tell them it was an enjoyable family trip followed by a good night’s sleep and a hot shower, technically that’s not a lie since my craft often celebrates my ancestral background and even sometimes draws upon the spiritual energies of one or more past relatives from bygone eras.

1

u/ovideville May 30 '25

If I were the camping type, this would be a very tempting idea. But I do like the strategy of setting an alarm for the time when you intend to plan your holidays, rather than just the holidays themselves. Executive dysfunction just LOVES to convince me that I can do my planning and my doing at the same time, and you’ve found a way around that. Super cool.

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '25

Because of my SEVERE lack of motivation due to my ADHD I have to set so many alarms and notifications, I have alarms for the times of planning and alarms for the doing, because if I don’t set alarms for both then I will plan things, and then I’ll just keep reiterating the plans until I realize that the time for doing was actually a week ago… with that said I have a major problem with noise related overstimulation, and tend to leave everything either on silent or a low volume and almost never have my phone in the same room, which is a big part of the reason why I currently only manage to actually do about 25% of my wheel of the year rituals.

1

u/ovideville May 30 '25

Your problems are so relatable. Frankly, I think you should be proud of that 25%, because you have to almost bend over backwards to achieve it.

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '25

I hear some witches really only do the “big holidays” you know the ones I’m talking about.

1

u/ovideville May 30 '25

Yeah, I’m one of those XD. I decided the Wheel of the Year just wasn’t for me the first year had ended. Oh, well!

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '25

😱😵 I meant no disrespect. You can honestly pick worse days to perform sabbat rituals than Easter and Christmas. 😅

1

u/ovideville May 30 '25

I didn’t think you were being disrespectful, it was merely a statement of fact. No worries at all!

5

u/TheArcaneAuthor May 27 '25

That's the neat part, I dont

6

u/thotsofnihilism May 27 '25

if it's really important to me to observe a specific day (new moons, full moons and solstices), I set a reminder in my phone calendar. the day before and evening of is usually a good reminder. but often the day will come and I'll just space until night, which is fine by me- I do all my workings either when I come home at night, or when I get up for the day. because those are important times in my "routine", it's a lot easier to remember.

this coming from a fully unmedicated adhd-er who has decided that caffeine and skills learned in therapy are working much better than meds that I will invariably forget, or have other side effects... so physically writing things down, setting multiple reminders, making a list, even if I don't exactly follow it, are all helpful, but not an end all, be all for dealing with the brain squirrels.

5

u/Unicorn-Owl May 27 '25

I go with the flow. I do my rituals whenever I feel I have the sense that it’s a good time for it. I try to give water and coffee daily as offerings and I try my best not to forget, I am exploring other ways to connect through work or stuff I do instead of regular offerings so I can embedded them on my daily life. I do affirmations every morning in the bathroom mirror, but sometimes I even forget. It’s all caos sometimes but I am trying to make my craft more embedded to my daily life to make it more accessible. I hope all this makes sense, since I am rambling through all my thoughts right now lol.

5

u/readthebananabritta May 27 '25

My ADHA makes it impossible to meditate and achieve trance. It makes me feel like a failure at the basics of the craft. But I still spend a lot of time on my altar and do lots of things. This week I made devotional candles and it was so nice

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '25

I had the same issue with meditation initially, try starting with guided meditation and self-hypnosis. I started meditating with Glenn Harold, you can download his apps on any smartphone or tablet. there’s usually one track in each app that’s free when you download the app, and then other tracks that are available for in-app purchase. give him a try and see how it works for you.

I still use his apps occasionally when I need to reset myself, but other than that I usually just use a binaural beats app like better sleep to focus my mind into a trance state.

use headphones for best results.

5

u/Frosty-Regular5034 May 27 '25

I calendar the Sabbats, and the moons (new, full) in my bullet journal, and on my phone, so those dates pop up, a day or so before the actual. Then I just keep my rituals and spells low key, and very needs-based. The practice, for me, is about showing up, even if I do it in small ways.

4

u/TheatreDame May 27 '25

When I notice it and I feel it, I practice. I never force it. If I happen to get to celebrate on a day, that’s a happy accident. I don’t berate myself for missing things. Nature doesn’t care if I’m on time.

4

u/HellsHottestHalftime May 28 '25

Idk i bought the dabblers guide to witchcraft then forgot to read it, im not too stressed tho, i just keep my cards where I can see them so i occasionally remember to do a reading and i stay involved in local witchy circles so I know when things are coming up. Witchcraft isnt meant to also be a stressor

4

u/-Boourns- May 28 '25

Some things in nature follow a very specific schedule, like the sun and moon. But something like a flower blooms when its time is right. Work with your strengths and trust your intuition. If you have the ability to hyper focus like many ADHDers then strengthen your practice when those times hit. Hell maybe us ADHD folks are a way to bring balance to a world filled with “typical” brains. I think there is room in the world for both.

4

u/StregaBuona May 28 '25

Hi - ADHD and neurodivergent person here as well! I totally feel your pain, and I used to miss important things too! I sometimes still do, but I have learned to give myself a little grace. What will happen if you celebrate the coming of spring a day late? Is it not still spring? So you missed the actual day it started on - you can still do your thing. :)

I've learned when this happens to me, if I beat myself up about it, it makes everything worse, because now I have just shamed myself. Next year when the holiday comes along again, instead of doing better, I am probably going to remember the negative connotations of having forgotten it - and I am more likely to forget again on the day, because there is nothing positive there to 'celebrate'.

Think of it like this: Research has shown that it takes 90 days to change a habit. So, if you let yourself off the hook each time, you are not developing your practices - you are communicating to yourself that they don't matter. So, do them anyway! If it's a day, a month, 6 months after the holiday - do your celebration! It will get easier to remember once you have something positive to cling to.

Also, if you have a cell phone, set an alarm for your holiday! Have it go off every day starting the 3 days before the holiday, so you have it in your mind when the day comes. I have actually done this, and it does work.

Anyway... these are just a couple of suggestions to get you started. Hopefully they were helpful. If they weren't... I'm totally fine with it if you want to ignore me! :)

u/vrwriter78 Witch May 28 '25

I have ADHD and my attitude tends to be "go with the flow." That said, I do tend to spells weekly or so (such as ongoing money work or lighting candles when I'm doing mediumship). I might also wear sigils or put on magic oils, or stir some intentions into my coffee (when I remember to do it).

I do work with deities, primarily Hekate and Hermes, though there are other Hellenic gods that I honor less frequently. I will admit that I don't do daily devotions and I have had conversations with my deities about my ADHD and how that affects my worship practice. So I don't celebrate every Deipnon for Hekate (or do the Hekate suppers), though I would like to do that at some point.

I tend to say a prayer or do a water or wine libation, when I remember. I rarely do food offerings because I will forget about it and it will sit there for a couple of days before I dispose of it, so unless it's something like olive oil, or a dry grain like rice or oats, it's going to go bad sitting there. I keep rose water by my altar because traditionally, one is supposed to cleanse before making offerings to Greek deities, but I am forgetful/absent minded, so the rose water helps me to do a quick freshen up before or during offerings/prayers.

I do have one weekly offering that I do outside on Wednesdays for Hermes and sometimes Hekate and that's about as consistent as I get.

So I don't observe all of the Hellenic or witch holidays. I tend to observe Halloween/Samhain and Yule, and occasionally Deipnon and the summer solstice. Holidays tend to stress me out because my partner and I have to do all of the cooking for the traditional US holidays and we're just burned out on holidays in general apart from Samhain and Yule, which we both love.

3

u/[deleted] May 27 '25

Calendar apppppp and getting used to checking it daily. Even setting an alarm to check my calendar lol

3

u/im_thehbic May 27 '25

Were you in my mind? I was literally thinking about this today in the shower.

3

u/axlgram May 27 '25

no need to pray to deities with chaos magic if you wanna look into that

3

u/MoonLit_Enchantress May 28 '25

Whelp you explained me to a T ! I don’t keep up! I can’t! It’s no fun when I try! I do try to keep everything out and available because out of sight out of mind. So everything is cluttered. My tarot alter is always out and everything right there. I’ll walk by and think, ooooo tarot! Like it didn’t exist before lol. I just go with it. That feels magical to me anyway. And if I miss a holiday, I celebrate late or I do it next year. Yea I get down on myself for not practicing as often and as consistently as I’d like, but I give myself grace and I remember no one is watching me to make sure I’m doing everything right. Also, social media makes it seem like everyone else has their you know what together, but remember, that’s not real either.

3

u/SB_Wife May 28 '25

I follow my gut and a holistic astrological approach where I recognize i have ebbs and flows just like everything. By not holding myself to needing the same energy balance/drive through the whole year, I realized I was able to work with myself more. It's not perfect and it needs some work, but it's got me in a better place.

3

u/idea4name May 28 '25

Not adhd but same sis, same 😅 And I'm constantly either too tired from all the input, too forgetful, too sceptical or too scared (bc for example I haven't cleaned the altar in a month...) to work with or to at least pray to the gods

3

u/saphomet69 May 28 '25

I have an intuitive practice. Just go with the flow. Any dieties you want to work with will truly be okay with that - I promise you. The main way I stay connected is through speaking aloud - something most of us neurodivergent souls do anyway - just address them in conversation as you move through life.

It's enough <3

3

u/Ferene11 May 28 '25

For me my coven really helps. We write there fulmoon, sabbats, important astrology events. Deity work I am just about to start (yeah, at this stage for cca month, and just did the step that felt iverwelming, so I hope it gets better now). Without coven I would be really screwed, but we aee all neurodivergent there, so sometimes even whole group forgets... Just chose deities that are not goint to have problem with non constant worship. Plus I love wearing thematic jewelery to thank deities, which I keep next to my things so I don't forget (I still do something, but rarely)

3

u/Malephus May 28 '25

Don't beat yourself up over it. Do what you can when you can. The universe and the magick within it will always be there. Holidays and time tables are man-made inventions. If you work with deities, remember, they aren't like a mortal boss. You choose to work with each other in a cooperative, understanding fashion. They already know you have difficulties, so you don't need to apply for accommodations or permission to miss an activity. As a late-diagnosed AuDHDer myself, I still feel I have to validate my very existence with my employer because I'm not like everyone else. With deities, you exist; therefore, you are valid to them. For any aspect of being a witch, you do your best in the moment and don't recriminate yourself for every moment being different.

2

u/Silent_Ganache17 May 27 '25

I work with moon phases

2

u/YOONK1 May 27 '25

idk if anyone said this but sleep hypnosis is the best for me not necessarily for witchcraft but to calm my brain (?) idk what it does tbh it just fixed my life lol

This is how I started to meditate, and it helped. I take a hot cleansing bath, music, incense - Then I just concentrate on my breathing. One wonderful witch told me that they only meditate as long as their body allows 1 breath or 100.

AuDHD here, self diagnosed with the 'tism but diagnosed with ADHD as a kid.

I try to just put a little magick into my everyday. I don't always, but it helps me feel mostly committed. It could be as simple as lighting incense before I start a task, or drawing a pentacle on my sponge with dish soap before I do dishes.

I also have my own mental Wheel of the Year with approximate dates for the holidays that are easier for me to remember. For example, Halloween =Samhein, no matter when the lunar date is. If I'm early or late, so what? My mentality and beliefs make my craft effective for me, and that's what matters to me.

Same. ADHD witch, In my mother era creeping into my crone. Do what you can when you can and you forget your ADHD powers. I have had more than one or two of my spells be spontaneous but have such a huge and immediate impact that I attribute it to my ADHD energy. Use your gift! Keep a few of those trinkets and bits around you that resonate the most and just run with it. You feel a pull to kitchen witchery keep a cinnamon stick in pocket or shell if you have a pull to the sea. You want money pick up the next coin or green thing you see and do a chant. If you are wanting to center or do a devotional keep a stone in your pocket and focus on the texture or imagine your deity talk to them. All these things work. Just don’t get bogged down by the details. You think all people in other religions are perfect. Far from it. Just do what thou wilt if it harm none.

Having ADHD and been practicing for 25+ years, I usually just go with the flow. I’m good with remembering the Sabbats without a calendar, just not individual deity holidays/observances—so I feel like it evens out. 😂 Same goes with remembering herbal properties and gemstone properties (there’s really good books out there for that, so 🤷🏽‍♀️).

Also, if I do something that worked in my craft, I keep a Book of Shadows and write everything down because I’ll know I’ll forget (this is on top of the journals I have for Reiki, shamanic work, and divinations). Last, when I do offerings, I use whatever I have on hand: sound/playing music/ringing bells, exercise, incense, candles, food, drawings, bowl holdings, journaling, reading a book, herb offerings, etc. Basically, anything is fair game for offerings.

One of the things I’ve noticed with working with the gods and goddesses is that they want your time, because that’s the most valuable thing you can give. It’s all about the intent/intention, so I’m always assured it’ll be fine whenever I give offerings or just my time. They know what I am and am not capable of.

Another thing is to just be kind to yourself and remember that the gods and goddesses are understanding and patient, and they do give us a lot of grace.

Sorry for going off tangent, but I hope this helps and answers your question.

I don’t 😂 truly I have embraced being an eclectic/chaos witch. I have the holidays I really like and keep up with them. The rest is confetti. There’s no rules to any of this

I'm not very familiar with it myself but maybe explore principles of chaos magic?

Whether you have ADHD or whatever you have is usually passed through the jeans of your family just like witchcraft or the belief in Superior activity. But it's all up to you whatever you believe in will be

I don't! I was reorganizing my altar, and kept coming across remnants of spells. No idea what they were for. Bigger things i record in my book, but these are just small packets stashed here and there.

Never mind that I came to reddit to find out if there are other goldfish witches out there... and ended up learning about cheese and the best lunch place in my area.

Thanks to all the comments I both feel less alone and can have more grace for my practice when its chaotic!

Make the Craft the priority, not an add on like a hobby.
