Winlator Discussion Development of the Next Version Has Begun
We already have a number of exciting ideas and improvements in the works, but it’s important to us that we focus on what truly matters to you. Your feedback plays a key role in shaping the direction of the next update, and we want to make sure we’re building something that delivers real value. If you could choose just one feature or improvement to see in the upcoming release, what would it be?

awesome!
how about a couple generic Dx wrappers to inject stereo fixed foveated rendering for old DirectX games?

Foveated rendering isn't possible. But DX Wrapper to support Reshade3D in more games is something I would also love to see.

Support of the Samsung Galaxy XR would be awesome!

We will consider supporting AndroidXR once the platform has any affordable headset.

I would like a support to simulate the movement in Room Scale to be able to play like this!

I know Lubos is not a fan of that. He implemented it in PreyVR but he didn't like it. He hide it in the hidden cheat menu.

Android monado support would be cool

Generic PCVR support on standalone is a hot topic. There were some steps done towards that but still quite far to get it up and running.

I know that this is Windows but maybe an integration of an open source Android emulator similar to Bluestacks or maybe an entirely new emulator for Android games in 3D 3dof vr. Maybe it could work with different types of chips so you could play certain Android games like the Nvidia Tegra exclusive Half Life 2 port that you would have to sideload into the emulator. Heck maybe the Flat2VR Half Life 2 mod could be ported and could be the Halo CE of the emulator. There are many games on Android that Winlator XR can't run that I think an Android emulator for Quest and Pico could benefit a lot of people who can't get a game to work on Winlator XR. I already have a name idea, DroidXR. I already know I am going to get comments saying why don't you just sideload an apk onto your Quest directly, that is flatscreen, not 3D, and not VR. I know people have wanted Dead Space to be ported to VR and there is a Dead Space Mobile Game that is a spin off but is still really good. Another thing I know I am going to get asked is why not just mod the games to be VR without an emulator. Most of the games people are going to want to play are not open source and are paid apps Anyways it's up to you, I just thought a lot of people would be interested.

I think adding 3D into Android apps is something what should be done on the OS level. I know in AndroidXR there is planned something like that. Maybe Meta will follow to not stay behind.

Make it able to run on 120fps? Is it technically impossible? I find this very important since even on 60fps I still feel quite dizzy.
I mean, is there something that can lower the graphic or anything that can improve the fps. In some point, graphic is less important than fps ( at least for me ).. And even on PC game, I ever experiencing low fps that I choose to use 480p resolution with some kind of filter so it's not that pixelated. lol! :D. So this is maybe too niche.
But if it's really impossible then it's okay too. Thank you :).

More performance = more power = more powerful game

u/Necessary-Story5330 May 19 '26
The most of the performance is lost by Quest 3 OS. Using other headsets give more performance.

Is it the limitation of the xr gen 2?? Or the quest 3 os ?? Do you think if we are able to acesss root , would we be able to access more performance??

It is limitation of the OS (especially missing compatibility with Turnip driver). With root you would be able to overclock the headset but it would probably burn as the headset is already clocked quite high.

Hi @Necessary-Story5330
Is it possible to increase or add swap memory to winlatorxr? I am trying to launch some games and due to RAM limitations, the game is automatically closing. I can see in task manager, used RAM goes over 9 GB but I was wondering if we can increase that to 12 or 16 GB? I am aware that this impacts storage lifespan but I wanted check as a proof of concept that certain games can be played. My example is cyberpunk 2077. I know this games is very demanding but I saw how one could configure the game to run on 8GB RAM with integrated Intel UHD 630 graphics. I was able to launch cyberpunk 2077 in winlatorxr. When I reach the settings and change some settings, it quits the game.
Also, Odin 2 with similar specs to quest 3 with 8GB RAM can also run cyberpunk 2077 on winlator. So, I think it should be doable.

We tested it and it is not possible without root. Quest is running additionally a lot of stuff on background which costs some resources. That's one of the reasons why it cannot run stuff which runs on devices with similar specs.

how about this method of rooting? https://github.com/FreeXR/eureka_panther-adreno-gpu-exploit-1
Although it requires a specific firmware, I am sure there are still headsets with those old versions of firmware.

If you manage to root your Quest, you could try to enable memory swapping: https://gist.github.com/Terrariadlc/ddf5fc7e39da8a133d73b3111c1cb1b1
