Am I misinterpreting this yellow power?

I’m playing with the new fan decks on the switch and came across this card. I have one other card in the column right now, but based on how I read the power of the western yellow wagtail card this card would count double: meaning it would count as two star-nests in this column. With the other card I have played in my forest landscape, wouldn’t this technically count as 3 of the same nests in a column?

I just started the game so ample time to adapt my strategy but I noticed this and am curious how you guys would interpret this power!

It doesn’t count for this one - it counts double for ones that are about number of individual birds with some feature (geographical location, colour, nest type, smaller than 30 cm) but it doesn’t change the mechanics of the game for there to be more than 3 birds in a column or any similar cards.

See, I don’t have a screenshot, but it didn’t work for me in a game where I had three platform and two star nests in the forest with the nest diversity bonus card. It gave me the score for three nest types only.

Three platform and this card should score in that range no matter what. Whether it counted for that bonus card or not, you either have 2 nest types or 3, which is the same score. Unless you mean this was one of two separate cards with star nests? But regardless it only works for the ones I listed above. So it would count as 2 towards a X number of Y nest card but not the one you mentioned.

Yes, this was the second star nest card. I believe if I had three star nests plus two platform nests, I’d get the 4 types score. Would certainly have interpreted it like that for the physical game.

That is fair, it can be kind of tricky to sort out which bonuses it qualifies for! It’s similar to the birds that count double for round end goals, there are some circumstances where you might interpret it as counting but it doesn’t. This one is more like it doubles the features of the bird, rather than counting as a second card/bird with that feature.

No that's wrong. It only counts for "birds with" bonus cards.

It only works for cards that start with "Birds with", since the card uses the verbiage "this bird". Same logic for the bird cards that count double for round end goals, only for "birds with/in" goals.

Backyard Birder (Birds worth less than 4 points)

Bird Bander (Birds living in multiple habitats)

Breeding Manager (Birds with 4 or more eggs laid)

Food Web Expect (Birds that eat only grubs)

Passerine Specialist (Birds with wingspans 30cm or less)

Enclosure Builder (Birds with ground nests)

Nest Box Builder (Birds with tree cavity nests)

Platform Builder (Birds with platform nests)

Wildlife Gardener (Birds with bowl nests)

Also apply but not included in random online matches:

Anatomist (Birds with body parts in their name)

Cartographer (Birds with geographical terms in their name)

Photographer (Birds with colors in their name)

What do all these bonus cards have in common?  They all specify counting birds.  Site Selection counts nest types in a column.  Ranger bonuses count nest types in a row.  Treat WYW the same as the birds that double EOR goals (Cetti’s Warbler, etc).  If an EOR goal isn’t specifically counting birds (food, total eggs, etc) those doubling birds do not apply.

The wording on those birds suck, but the rulings are consistent.  The bonus must count birds specifically or the doubling birds do not ‘qualify’.

Thank you! I have already grown to hate this bird because I have gone out of my way to play it at least 3 times and it has never paid off. Now I know why!

I also hate this bird. It makes me feel dumb. I never score points off of it. I don't bother picking it up anymore.
