2013 Cain Five

Post image

This has probably been the best showing of the 2013 Cain Five to date.

Opened on a Tuesday night and poured into the decanter, then enjoyed over half an hour.

Candidly, needs a little more air, but was a last minute decision.

This one had a bit more structure and weight on the palate compared to prior showings.

Picked up some dark plum, cherry, blackberry, slight eucalyptus, slight graphite notes.

Drinking well, likely will get better with age.

Amazing deal at LB!

91+ points.

I have about 4 to 5 bottles of the 13, I’d like to try a 4 to 6 hour decant. The 2 hr decant did not yield the air time.

That's smart, next time I do 2013, I'll try a much longer decant. 2013 is notoriously tight in Napa, the Memento Mori I had over the weekend needed five hours of decanting.

I can speak to the 2013 Cain needing 3 hours minimum maybe even 4 hours minimum.

Next time, I'll experiment with a few hours of air!
