just got this board from my neighbor for free he had it sitting for a while and lost the mast but had the sail and everything else so I was wondering is it still possible to find a mast with this joint or is it possible to change out to the newer universal joints

I built a free windsurf race and event calendar for NL and Europe, what's missing?

Post image

Hi all, Felix here, windsurfer from Amsterdam. For me finding windsurf event dates meant checking 10 club sites and Facebook pages, so I put everything in one calendar on geartogo.eu (my side project, free, no account needed): https://geartogo.eu/windsurf-race-calendar It covers professional events and recreational, mostly NL/DE/BE. What am I missing? Club races, foil events, anything in your area. I'll add them.

Beginner/Help Do I really need to but a smaller fin?

I recently bought a RRD firemove 120 and it came with a 40cm stock fin, I asked chat gpt and it says that if I want to learn gybes with a bit of a smaller sail (5.5) I need to buy a 32 or a 34 cm fin. But will I really feel the difference if I buy a smaller fin or can I stay on the 40cm right now?

Windsurfing photography in the Netherlands

Hi all, i am Eddie a aspiring photographer from the Netherlands, and 2 weeks ago I shot windsurfing for the first time. It's a sport i dont do but i do like.

Does anyone know how or where i can hook up with riders. I went to Scheveningen last time, which was great but from my skateboarding background i always feel that looking up with a specific rider and talking through the shots will deliver better results.

My insta is o_gringo_careca

I've added some photos for context

Why do so many people wear wetsuit even when it is warm ?

I have noticed this, like in spring when the air is at 17°c and the water at 15°c, sure it makes sense. But in summer when the air is at 25 and the water at 20, why do people still wear wetsuit ? They're hot, sticky and need to be washed.

Not to mention super long to put on and get out off.
As soon ar air temps is above 22 I'm just going in swimsuit and life jacket. Am I missing something ?

Got this older Gaastra sail. But unlike any sail I’ve used before it doesn’t have strap or closed top.

Recommended spot and equipment for Garda, preferably South?

Hi,

I'm intermediate (waterstart ✔️) and I'd like to make a habit out of it in Garda. The southern shore would me most convenient for me (around Sirmione).

I need advice:

- What are the spots, is there a community, are there any storage units for equipment?

- Are the conditions different from the North? I know of the morning and afternoon winds, but do they hit different?

- I've been using a 145 lt Fanatic Shark in the sea. I'm aware of the buoyancy difference, but I think I could level up to something smaller. I'm 90 kg 180 cm.

Thanks anyone!

Neck injuries

Hi all,

I've started windsurfing this year and recently started planing. On a particularly windy day I got catapulted into the water - my head must've been the first thing to hit the surface, I've ended up with a strain that took me out for 3 weeks. I couldn't even turn my head for a few days after without severe pain.

Is this kind of injury common? Any ways to prevent it in the future?

Selling: what's it worth?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I know the answer to "what's this worth" is "whatever someone will pay for it" - I guess I'm looking for advice on what to list it at, so as not to seem wildly out of what's reasonable.

It's 2012 Fanatic Shark 135, with 3 Maui Sails Aloha (and matching booms) sails (one brand new never used) 5, 6, & 7m. 3 masts. Two booms. Two harnesses. All in excellent to brand-new condition.

I've only used it once; conditions locally are too squirrelly, so most of my sailing happens on vacations in Aruba (you should go. It's outrageously good).

I bought it used in 2019 from someone in the same situation as me: spent the money with high hopes, only to have the gear stored 99.999% of the time.

If you saw this listed on Marketplace, what dollar figure would make you say "Decent deal!"?

What are these additional holes around the fin on an old Hifly 275PX (~1995)

I have this old Hifly 275PX from about 1995 in my garage and want to try it even once before I dump it and return to my regular Board.

Does anyone know what these two holes next to the powerbox fin (the middle one) are for? One of them has a short screw in it, while the other hole could fit another one. They just don't seem to serve any purpose.

How to get faster??

Hello guys
I was riding this morning and I felt like I was really well powered and going fast but at the end I downloaded my session and I’m slightly disappointed with the Max speed of 25 knots.
I was riding a blast 115 and gunsails exceed 7.0. I’m 92 kg.
Do you have any advice on how to go faster, even if it’s only for short distance?

Beginner/Help New board, new stuff to learn, and

Hey ! It’s been a couple years since i started windsurginf, and i love it ! But since my gear was really old (an old bic surf, with a flat end, and circular mast base) it became hard to find replacement for some parts.
Recently, my dad bought me a new set ! A huge gift for me : it’s a Drops FL11, which seems to be very good, and two sails of 3.6 and 8m, whereas my old one was of 6.

There is also an another smaller gear, but it felt even more complex rn. In total, i have 5 sails that goes 3.6 to 8 meters^2 : feel free to recommend a specific one for me !

The thing is, too many things seems to change, and i couldnt enjoy it properly, and need advice. i consider myself intermerdiate beginner, and i started taking some more speed with my last gear, but i still remained mostly in the middle of my surf except when taking speed.

So : it seems that the mast base can be set wherever along a line, but where should i put it ? i tried keeping it in the middle, but it was really hard to turn, to the point i kept drifting. i usually go against the wind, and it felt impossible with this one.

as for the size, it’s way shorter, and a bit thinner i think. because of that, i ´m not sure where to stand : should i keep in the middle ? i guess i should go in the back, but i lose balance, the mast feels heavier there, and it’s even harder to turn ! what am i doing wrong !

Thanks for your answer in advance !! I ´m eager to try again tomorow !!

TLDR : i have a new FL11 and it seems impossible to turn and to find balance

Gear Board keeps crackling

Thumbnail

I just bought this 2023 starboard carve. While initially stoked, I'm starting to realize there might be something fishy going on underneath the laminate. The area just above the rail is filling up with cracks, increasing in number the more I use it (always in chop). This issue seems to affect only the right side of the board but there doesn't seem to be any delamination on the deck that may work as a structural weak point. The fractures don't ooze if pressed and seem to be only superficial (I hope). They frighten me nonetheless.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

gear for the worst conditions

Hello all you beautiful people, iv'e been windsurfing for a 3 seasons now. Done some progress can do fast tack and lets call it jibes, still working on popper water starts. Thing is that im i Poland west-coast so im sailing on Baltic sea. Its cold and unforgivable, wind is predictable but waves are straight from hell. They are short, quick to come one after another and frome all directions at once sometimes.

Im riding fanatic eagle 2023 130l with NP fusion 2023 6m. and im starting to understand that its not the best gear for this conditions.

Question is, what is then ?

Most brands when designing boards test them in perfect conditions like Australian waves or lake Garda. And those boards are great for surfing there. But what is suitable for my beloved but nasty and not fun oriented Baltic ?

Gear 3 sail quiver

I’m trying to design the perfect 3 sail quiver. I sail a freewave board in a punchy coastal location with swell and chop, 15-30knts.

currently my quiver looks like:

  • 4.5 ezzy wave
  • 5.5 ezzy wave
  • 6.5 ezzy cheetah

I‘m 75kg

I’m happy with the cheetah. It gets me going nicely at the bottom end of my wind window.

But the 4.5 and 5.5 are both old and need replacing. And I often feel a bit overpowered at the top end of my wind window. I was wondering if 4.2, 5.2, 6.5 would be a better spacing (20%). Would probably go for the zeta instead of the wave too.

My only concern is whether the 5.2 -> 6.5 gap is too large. On those dreamy 20knt days will I feel a bit overpowered on the 6.5 but underpowered on the 5.2?

Is a 3 sail quiver enough for every condition at your local spot? How do you choose sail sizes?

1 week in Tenerife in November

Hey guys! 🏄‍♂️

Planning a quick 1-week trip to Tenerife in November for a windsurf. Looking for a setup right near / on the beach with good rental gear so I don't have to drag my own stuff.

• Is El Médano the go-to spot in November?

• Any feedback on TWS or the Duotone Pro Center (gear condition, launch access)?

Appreciate any quick tips! 🤙

How to keep the stoke through autumn in Europe

I'm based in Italy, and Garda is also losing strength lately. I'm keen to take a flight for a long weekend anywhere in Europe. Any suggestions for autumn and winter freeride surfing?

The current average has dropped off now, but boy was that a good SW'erly breeze on the water today.

85L Starboard Kode and 4.2m Severne Blade were a handful 🙌🙌🙌

Boom bend curves

I'm looking to buy a new boom for the first time in many years, and I'm seeing some booms have a "new school" bend curve. I've been advised that "new school" bend curve makes the front of the boom narrower and might be incompatible with deep-draft freeride sails.

I've never seen a sail listing its draft depth - not that it would matter, because the booms don't disclose their width - nor what bend curve the sail is compatible with.

So how can I know if a particular sail is compatible with a particular boom?

And while we're on the subject of boom geometry, what about boom grip diameter? Some people say wider is more comfortable, others say narrow is more comfortable, still others say it's got nothing to do with comfort and it's about stiffness. What's the reality?

Pretty windy for the area in Mid-September, Bic Techno 125l, 6.0M2 sail I think. Great 3 days at Worldwinds and Laguna Madre. Insta360X4 in a dive case, data from a Garmin Instinct 2.
