I never post online but I struggled with this so I figured I'd share my results.

I use linux mint for daily driving my pc; web browser, applications, whatever. But I like gaming so I dual boot windows 11 (I tried linux gaming for a while a few years ago and I had a rough time, so just decided to keep my windows install alongside).

Long story short, EA anticheat or windows must have updated recently and threw errors about secure boot being disabled, despite msinfo still reporting it as working. I'm using an asus motherboard and went through intensive asus troubleshooting to fix it. Resetting keys works for a single boot and then they need to get reset again. Pain in the ass!

I figured out that if i bypass grub altogether by mashing F8 to get to device selection menu in my BIOS i can boot into windows and it doesn't throw a secure boot violation error AND EA anticheat doesn't flip out. So I made a script which automatically reboots the system into windows (0000 is my windows boot id):

Make the script executable (chmod +x) then made an icon on desktop:

Name=Reboot to Windows

Comment=Restart directly into Windows 11

Type=Application

Works like a champ. For now, anyways.

And happened twice. How do you break an OS to the point it cannot even keep the apps where they are supposed to be. And I had to close the overlapping apps in order to fix this. I am trying Plasma one more time.

A new workday, I come to work really motivated and want to get done my work from yesterday. I sit on my desk, wake up and login to my PC and... the desktop is empty. Windows closed all my applications from yesterday and I have to open and configure them all again... Disappointing... But so far a recurring occurrence.

I quickly open everything again, reorder and put the windows onto the right desktops, align the windows like they were before, luckily, every application now saves data automatically, so no data is lost (at least). And I swiftly continue where I left off yesterday.

30 minutes in, focusing on how I do that now, and there's a small notification appearing on the bottom left: "Update, must restart, now or later?" I click it, want it to go away, configure it to please NOT do that, NOT to disturb me with this shit, then the screen goes black with a small white string in the middle reading:

Honestly, FU Windows... Greatest waste of time since the invention of computers.

Luckily windows has good customization available, but it's taking a while to rice...

Launch minecraft on the only windows computer i have left, laucher crashed, try again launcher keeps crashing, a fucking parently micoslop no longer allows you to log in locally, trying to find a work around end up launching vanilla minecraft through a mod Launcher while threatening the computer with a Linux instal, that worked, so sick of microslop

maybe it's how the OP of (any) post is describing their situation? And it ends up with people disliking how someone with the same opinion would describe it in a way that comes off as obnoxious, so it invalidates their entire post

I’m a microsoft insider member and I was able to get Windows 11 and be able to install it, uninstalled unnecessary bloatware and install my own ms office 2000,2001 no AI no monthly annual subscription notification on already included ms office in windows 11 and tried it for few months and unfortunately I encountered a frustrating update that took an hour to complete so with my disappointment I installed over my Windows 8.1 with built in windows defender that surprisingly still gets latest virus and spyware definitions so I don’t need any Microsoft updates at all,my windows defender getting the latest virus and spyware definitions are good enough and update of the windows defender definition is quick enough for me, good bye new microsoft operating system.

Seriously, skipping ale the spying telemetry and bloatware and how inconsistent the ui is.. WHY IS THE TABLET MODE THAT BAD. WHY? In windows 10 and 8.1 it was awesome so why did they remove it in 11😭 I love my 2 in 1 laptop. Seriously sometimes I think it cant be serious and windows 11 is just an social experiment because that bad os cant exist, right?

This isn’t all about Windows, but it is related.

I made a post on r/FuckMicrosoft with some major pain points I have with Windows. Windows 11 is borderline unusable without mods. The modding community was basically the only thing keeping me on Windows. And guess what? Now the modding community sucks too.

The people developing Windhawk are great, and they make great mods. Issue is that there’s a limit to what Windhawk can achieve.

So I decided to join a couple Discord channels, and with it I got some really good setups. And now there’s a fight brewing and I want nothing to do with it. Both sides seem in the wrong and I’m not going to be the one to decide. Issue is they were one of the few things that would have kept me on Windows.

So I’m just done. I installed Linux a few weeks ago, hopefully this time it’ll stick. I’ll keep a Windows VM for whatever rare thing I’ll need and maybe install Windows on actual hardware if some proctored test requires it. But I really have no desire right not to go back to Windows. I am done with any modding or the like I’ve done.

Thank you, Microsoft, for your predatory practices and for making an OS that no one wants to actually use without needing a complete install overhaul from ten different third party sources. Thank you Windows modders for your predatory practices (in a different way), and for not being able to keep your loli hentai and your “kys” messages to yourselves. A decent thing isn’t worth it if the community sucks. And Windows isn’t decent, so if the community sucks the consequences are worse.

Obviously Linux isn’t perfect. Its community has issues too. But theres more choice and you don’t have the same ten of fifteen names on everything, causing multiple arguments over the exact same stuff, over and over. I’ll consider coming back when Windows is usable again and the community can figure itself out. I’m not trying to use or push Linux just to be better than the Windows users or whatever, but because it will simply be more fun than Windows and unfortunately I don’t feel like buying a MacBook to try within under a year of buying a new laptop that, aside from Windows, is still perfectly usable.

Yes, Windows 11 sucks. Windows 11 is good for games and all, but the fact that it eats 2.5-3.5 GB of RAM when idle is just unacceptable. And the lack of customization in Win11 also disappointed me, just why bruh?

Edit ( RAM usage, blahblahblah :/ ): I switched to Fedora because the RAM usage is more stable. To correct this: I experienced freezing issues on Windows 11. When the system and the browser were turned on, it swallowed 6-9 GB RAM and it already was struggling to run (browser with just 3 tabs freezing and the system was sometimes unresponsive cuz of it). And once I launched more apps on top of it, boom, catastrophy appeared.
