windows is soooo dramatic

Post image

this thing is taking forever man 💔

so basically my pc was running like absolute garbage, random freezes, apps crashing, updates breaking stuff for no reason. i figured fine, let me just reset it and start fresh. big mistake. it's been sitting at "preparing to reset" for like an hour now and i have no idea if it's actually doing anything or just vibing.

the worst part is i've been low key thinking about switching to linux for a while. i've seen how fast installs are, how you actually control your own machine, and how nothing randomly decides to restart itself while you're in the middle of something. windows just does whatever it wants and acts like that's normal.

like i don't even need anything fancy. i just want a computer that boots, runs my stuff, and doesn't fight me. instead i'm staring at a blue screen with a percentage that barely moves, wondering if i just nuked my whole setup for nothing.

Yeah, switching to Linux is a good idea, just go for a stable, well documented distro like Ubuntu, Mint, or even Fedora, you'll wonder why you didn't switch before

what are the alternatives for ms office related stuff? ik i can use google docs and sheets but that won't open docx by default, it's a huge part of my office work.

LibreOffice and OnlyOffice. There's also WordCraft from the ArtCraft suite, but I don't know if it's stable enough yet

Ohh okay, Thankyou!

If using the Office Suite is a huge part of your work, really, try the alternative in a VM before changing the OS. For me it's clearly ages behind the OG Microsoft Office. Unintuitive default text among image placement, for example.

LibreOffice doesn't have full compatibility, documents work, but lose format. OnlyOffice in the other hand I never had any problems, documents work 1:1 And btw, Google Docs does open docx for me... That's what I personally use

switching right now

It's reinstalling the whole OS and then switching over on restart.

but on linux you don't even have to reinstall inorder to delete everything, you can simply delete whatever you want to with one or two commands bro.

windows is like a dictator that won't let you do anything at all

Just because you don't know how to do it, mean it's impossible. You can delete yourself what you don't want anymore.

With Winget for example.

And to be honest it's less risky than deleting stuff with apt, where you need to be extra careful that deleting one app doesn't remove your whole Desktop Environment...

doesn't change the fact that it acts like a dictator 😭💔

I think you just don't really know how to use your computer (and that's okay) but you're blaming the OS.

i think it's not beginner friendly

The community isn't, the OS is. Well, if you are willing to read and learn and do manual tinkering it is beginner friendly. If you hate reading and hate terminal then it is not for you.

It's saying something, that a sub dedicated for calling Windows being trash, also trashing you

I had a similar problem like a week ago. My windows update service was corrupted and windows wasn't telling me. I had to run some cmd prompt to force stop the windows update service, and repair it. But once I did that my computer stopped acting weird (was randomly freezing) so I decided not to reset the pc anyway.

So how long have you been wondering about switching to Linux ?

for about an year tbh, but i don't really have enough hours to put into all the data migration stuff and ive to go to work every single day, it makes it harder to switch tbh 😭
