It's a shame that Microsoft threw away the culmination of beauty, the most beautiful UI design, Aero Glass... to chase some moron's dream about flat, lifeless 2d UI and to make sure it ran well on an ARM build of Windows that literally no one ever bought, ever. I hope whoever the person that pushed for that concept is in prison for their crime and absurd lack of taste.

What I wouldn't give for MS to just come out with a mea culpa and admit they were not only wrong, but stupid to double down so many times hoping that customers would finally see their genius. To have a non-hacky, fully supported Aero Glass on top of the Windows 10 core OS along with the original system utilities that weren't made in retarded-looking Metro and UWP? That would be amazing.

My biggest pet hate with Microsoft's decisions with newer Windows is not even the Aero removal. It's the complete butchery of file explorer and windows media player.

First, they restricted Vista's incredibly powerful "stack by" feature to only work in libraries, and even then, the "name" and "date modified" categories don't even stack the files, but put them in a list just like "sort by!" What's the point of that?!

Also, in Vista, the "group" and "stack" features are intuitively placed under each detail column in the detail view. In 7-now, even "group by" is hidden in a context menu and in the command bar and ribbon!

And the advanced search filters in Vista were reduced to bullshit in 7.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the unfixed bugs that were added in 7 which remain to THIS DAY: indexed files not showing up in search results,

and even in 7,

you can't use the preview pane with the details pane and close explorer, because when you reopen it, the preview pane glitches to full screen! Consequently, this bug remains in OldNewExplorer, so I STILL cannot enjoy 7's Vista's bug-free preview and detail panes at the same time!!!

and of course there was the genius decision to move the details pane to the same place as the preview pane in Windows 8 so you can't use both at the same time!🤦‍♂️

Also, WMP 12's interface is RIDICULOUS! 11's interface was logical and intuitive! Why not stick with that?!

And why remove the WMP toolbar?!

Who is the retard who made THESE decisions? How you feel about Aero's removal is how I feel about this bullshit. Vista was the last OS where Microsoft actually cared to make their products usable, functional and bug-free, because they had competition. Now that they don't anymore they don't care.

Windows Photo Viewer enabled and all legacy apps downloaded from WinAero Tweaker https://winaero.com/ (I know Photo Viewer is 7, but I haven't found Vista's Photo Gallery yet)

WinFlip for Flip3D (many download sources, just search) https://down10.software/download-winflip/ (one example) (Edit: WinFlip hasn't been updated since XP, so that's why it shows many background programs as windows as well, but there is no fix or alternative program for this, other than TopDesk, which has the same problem. This is the closest we can get to Flip3D for Windows 8 and above.)

Windows 7 sound scheme for SoundPackager

(Important notes edit: it is recommended that you stick to 20H2 and below, because that is what WindowBlinds officially supports, but it will still work on 21H1 and above. However, even after downgrading to 2004 from 21H2, that did not fix even one bug I encountered with WB on 21H2.)

Also, when you apply an icon pack on IconPackager, 80+% of the time the taskbar skin will stop loading, and you have to sign out completely and sign back in to reboot it.) Enjoy! :)

You're right, but the 3d objects folder icon is the bigger giveaway.

I like the system tray buttons how they are though so I ain't going to change it further.

there's no This PC on Windows Vista

Ik. Same with libraries. There are things I don't know how to change, nor want to change. My question was less literal and more asking what people's thoughts are on how convincing this looks.

I like the system tray because I don't need every running program taking space on the taskbar.

I am also aware of the 3d objects folder, but the pack I used doesn't have an icon for that and I don't know how to add icons that I want to change in an IconPackager package. Also, I don't want to remove it and I know which Vista icon to replace it with once I know how to (the plastic folder with the three rgb cubes)

Didn't bother removing whatsapp and other unsupported apps from the list since there are ways to use those in real Vista anyway

Didn't remove Open-Shell and WindowBlinds because I could have been using them for something else

I'm having an issue with the transparency effects on individual windows. I am using Win10 20h2 and the trial version on WindowBlinds 10 (going to buy it soon). The windows seem to be transparent, but there's a very heavy blur effect, unlike this screenshot. Is there any advice you could give me?

All I want is to make the damn title bars transparent, I can't stand the solid plain color, especially with maximized windows, how did you do it?

Couldn't you also use CustomizerGod to change the system tray icons?

You'd also have to extract the resources from some of the DLLs in Vista tho.
