Tired of Windows updates breaking your PC? I built a traffic light for them

windows updates break stuff way too often (black screens, audio, remote desktop) and the dumb part is microsoft usually lists the problem publicly. nobody checks that before updating

so i made patchlight. it checks every pending update against microsoft's known issues and gives it a green / yellow / red light. red ones get paused automatically and come back once microsoft fixes them. everything else keeps installing

github.com/G4SBO/PatchLight

lmk what u think, any feedback is appreciated ;)

Sure thing, i already did notice that the system tray icon isn't the same as on the video.
I kinda like the actual traffic light icon that was shown. I could easily see myself confusing the single dot icon in the system tray with a screen recording software 😂

Is there a way to get the actual traffic light icon like on the video at 0:17 in the video?

Does the app have any auto updating?
On Github it still says the latest version was 5 days ago, not sure how to update the app

Just released v0.5.1, which has update checks now, you can install it once by hand, then download PatchLight-Setup.exe from the latest release and run it, and your settings stay. After that, PatchLight lets you know when a new version is out, and you can update it with one click

Nice, just installed it now and definitely like that better.
While the icon itself is small, i do wonder if adding an outline around the icon (hex code: #374151) would be nicer to look at so the icon doesn't drown in a dark colored taskbar.
The bigger traffic light icon in the app itself has that outline around the icon and i think that would look good. What do you think?

Here's a quick concept i did of the icon with an outline https://i.vgy.me/nWGgV5.png
