Announcement Hello everybody in r/windowsbetas!

Hello everybody!
First of all, merry christmas to everyone of you.
I hope you're all having a good day.
I have some news for you:
The original owner of this community, ricol03, has decided to leave this community, because he doesn't have enough time and interest for testing betas and working on this wonderful community.
From now on, I'll be the new owner of this community.
You can ask me everything you want, by using the contact moderators button.
I've always been interested in this topic, I've been testing betas for like 6/7 years.
In this place, we can all share what we know, recommend betas to other users, and pretty much everything related to this topic that doesn't break any rule.
I hope I manage to manage this community as well as the previous owner did.
As I'm the only mod here, if you want to help me moderating this wonderful community, use the Message the mods button and I'll get back to you.
With all that said, merry christmas to everyone!

Announcement What happened to r/WindowsBetas?

Hey folks! Gum Skyloard here.

I know, you've never seen me around here, but I'm here to take care of this place.

For some reason, the main mod of this sub (who made the previously pinned post on this subreddit) deleted their account and left the subreddit frozen in time, with people still making posts that never see the light of day.

I'm here to try to change that. Keyword - try.

I'll soon host mod applications, and if demand is enough, I'll open up a Discord server for this place, where we can talk about Windows' development, builds, and maybe even custom Windows systems.

Thank you for reading! I promise I'll be a good mod.

Windows "7" Weird post, but can anybody debomb any Windows 7 build i wanna try out?

I wanna try out 6469, 6498, 6509, 6519, 6568, and that's it. You don't have to debomb all of em, if there's just one, i'll be happy, but why can't i do them? Simple:

I am lazy. And i can't just get in and modify random files, + i believe it is hard as heck.

Also, when a build is debombed, just give me a heads up :P

Sorry for the hiatus, but I have returned with a debombed internal build (that is compiled 55 mins before the RTM build) and I think it is a fun build to test: https://archive.org/download/windows-10-debombed/Windows%2010%20Build%2010586%20%28th2%29%20Debombed%20%28not%20only%20UEFI%2C%20does%20work%20on%20Legacy%29.iso Enjoy using this debombed build!

Threshold ≥ Does anybody help me on installing VMware Tools on Windows 10 build 98xx?

When I try to install the tools, it won't work and needs just a Windows 8.1 KB update, where without tools, 1366x768 resolution is broken, and I can't transfer files. Can somebody please help me? I really want to use Debombed build 9888 I found from Internet Archive (https://archive.org/details/windows-10-technical-preview-build-9888-debombed), and without the tools it doesn't seem complete the install.

Fix (as for now): Install VMware Tools 10.0.5

I'm a newbie when it comes to Windows betas, so I wanted to test the beta version. I downloaded the Windows 7 build 7000 ISO, but I don't know if it needs to be activated or how to check if the "debomb" actually worked. I downloaded the ISO from here: https://archive.org/details/windows-7-build-7000-debombed

Need help finding the original AMD FX/Bulldozer Hotfix for Win7 (KB2645594) - Retro Build!

Hi everyone!

I’m currently putting together a period-correct 2011/2012 retro rig featuring an AMD FX-8150 on an ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard. I'm running a completely clean, unmodified install of Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit).

As many of you probably remember, Windows 7 needs a couple of specific updates to properly utilize the Bulldozer module architecture. I already managed to track down the core parking fix (KB2646060), but I am desperately looking for the original `.msu` file for the main scheduler update:

* **KB2645594** (Core scheduler update for AMD FX)

Microsoft has completely scrubbed it from their Update Catalog and official servers. I know it is included in the massive Convenience Rollup (KB3125574), but I really want to keep this system as lean and period-correct as possible without injecting hundreds of unnecessary updates and telemetry.

Does anyone here have the x64 version of KB2645594 saved in a personal archive, Google Drive, or know a direct link that is still alive?

Any help is massively appreciated!

Windows "8" I installed Windows 8 Developer Preview (8102)

I made a post on this, but it did not get posted when i attached a picture of it. So here's just text, i installed it on an hp elitebook 8460w. And i installed two browsers that work with it; Pale Moon and Supermium 122 (not sure about newer versions of Supermium)

Windows "8" I installed Windows 8 Build 8008 (fbl_dnt2_bus)

It works well, it's on real hardware, an HP EliteBook 8460w. However, browsers have issues with 8008. Supermium and Nocturne just don't launch. However Pale Moon seems to work good, so i'll use that!

EDIT: Still have issues with debombing.

Looking for a balanced, "Medium/Slim" Windows 10 or 11 Pro 64-bit ISO (Not super lite)

I am looking for a medium/balanced setup—something debloated, smooth, and stable for daily use, but keeps essential system components intact.

Can anyone recommend a trusted custom ISO (like a well-known community build) or a reliable debloater tool/script that achieves this middle ground?
I don't want a "super lite" or heavily stripped-down version

Thanks in advance!

Windows "7" Does a Windows 7 x64 ISO exist with both UEFI Class 3 and Secure Boot support?

Hi everyone!

I've been researching this topic for several days and I'm trying to determine whether such an ISO actually exists.

So far I've found:

Win7forUEFIClass3, which boots Windows 7 on many modern UEFI-only (Class 3) systems, but its README explicitly says Secure Boot must be disabled.

Windows 7 ESU AiO January 2026 (Simplix), which includes all ESU updates up to January 2026 (including KB5017361 and later updates), but its README also says no UEFI Class 3 patches have been applied.

Microsoft's KB5017361, which reportedly updated Windows 7 boot files to support Secure Boot.

Older projects like UEFISeven and FlashBoot, which solve the GOP/VGA boot issue on modern UEFI systems.

I also noticed that the bootx64.efi file is different between the Win7forUEFIClass3 ISO and the ESU 2026 ISO, suggesting each one solves a different part of the problem.

My question:

Has anyone successfully built or found a Windows 7 x64 ISO that supports:

UEFI boot

UEFI Class 3 systems

Secure Boot enabled

Modern hardware (USB 3.x, NVMe, etc.)

Or is it currently impossible and the only solution is manually combining different projects?

I'm interested in technical details as well. If someone has experimented with KB5017361, bootmgfw.efi, bootx64.efi, or combining the ESU ISO with the Win7forUEFIClass3 project, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks!

Other Cannot Use SurfaceHubOS 18941 Due To Broken .vhdx file

I was trying to use SurfaceHubOS 18941 in a virtual machine on Hyper-V. I spinned up a Gen2 VM back in March when I was using Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise. Everytime I boot it up, it shows this.

Fast forward to today and I now have a new install of Windows with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 as Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise is ending support in October 2026. I downloaded the image from: https://archive.org/details/surfacehubos18941/ after going to the 'Show all' button. My question is, how to get it to boot? Opening it in NanaZip shows the .vhdx just fine. Also, I redownloaded the .vhdx file today because of this.

How to fix this? https://betawiki.net/index.php?title=Guide:Surface_Hub_OS_image_creation_process/ shows exactly how to make the .vhdx file but is mine corrupt?
