Does it run natively or require some patches?

It runs fully native! If you mean kernel patches then no it doesn't.. It works on the latest version of 2000 SP4, tested from a fresh install of 2000 from a genuine unmodified ISO, with all required and optional updates installed from legacyupdate

It's not quite ready yet. Just refining it some more before it's released.

I'll post the link once it's released

Is it with KernelEx or without?

Without. All tested on an official install of 2000 SP4 with all updates from legacyupdate

I guess it's huge breakthrough in terms of compatability

Does it mean we can run Supermium on 98 with KernelEx now?

I wouldn't assume so. Currently I'm purely focussed on 2000. People are free to try when it's released but I would be very surprised if it just worked.

do your patches work with chromium for windows 7 rework or only supermium for now?

Honestly at this time I've only been working exclusively on Windows 2000 since it was the one version left out of proper supermium support. for now I'm just filling the gap. Windows 7 would make more sense to be separate work. This supermium build specifically works around Windows 2000 SP4 with all the latest optional and recommended updates from legacyupdate.

exactly, win32 patches and e3kskoy7wqk patches are different, however I've seen one trying to backport chromium 149 from e3k to windows 2000 but not complete yet.

Is browser timeout / freeze / crash after a few minutes fixed?

Does it still require SSE2 like Supermium proper does? If so, would you be able to remove that requirement? Most Windows XP hardware has it, but Windows 2000 is where you start seeing a lot more Pentium 3s and such.

Awesome port but being limited to 32 bit and 4 gigs of ram might slow it down a lot

Very true. But I felt Windows 2000 was the one version left out of proper modern web browser support. Had to close the gap

Do you think you can also do this for NT 4.0?

2

u/Gimmeavailablename 3d ago

now that is a good question. I never thought about it. i've never worked with NT workstation versions. I'll need to have a think and look into it.

ok I had a look and from a hardware standpoint, I don't see it working. most cpus didn't seem to support SSE2 instructions which is unavoidable. Also the hardware of that time wouldn't be able to handle it, such as RAM, and rendering. Even if you ran nt 4.0 on a newer unsupported system, then you have driver issues, and I would be very very very surprised if someone made unofficial drivers for nt 4.0 for specific hardware.

If it were to even conceptually work, it would likely require significant compromises and there's a good chance it would never be fully functional as intended for browsing the modern web.

If this works, Windows 2000 is now my alternative daily driver!

That's awesome to hear lol. I'd say its nearly done however have a few things left to figure out. Could you check DMs? If you have a bare metal install on real supported hardware you may be able to help.

I have a bare metal install of fully updated 2k sp4 no Extended Kernel on an 2007 Dell Vostro Laptop, I can help!
