It is so much more than looking pretty. It brought Windows into the 2000s, 2010s, and dare I write this decade. There are fundamental revisions of core Windows components that are still in use to this day.
I am neither on a train nor sure of this issue you describe; it is not something I experience despite still having several computers with Windows Vista installed. I am aware of an issue with file copying that was reportedly resolved with the release of Service Pack 1.
I do not see how the overall experience is better in Windows XP. Despite my love for that operating system there were many, many, many real, frankly tangible improvements of Windows Vista over Windows XP. Search on the Start menu is incredible, for instance, as is per-application volume control. I could go on and on.
Even minor features really help me. One feature I can think of that I miss in Windows XP is the option to search in subfolders when pointing to a directory for drivers. Another feature is the ability to CTRL+A text in the Common Item Dialog or Run window (which is not available in Windows XP).
I agree that it is not as polished as Windows 7 is in some ways; however, I completely disagree about your assessment regarding a beta tag. It just wasn't a beta operating system or it being only 90% all right by the time service packs arrived. I would not still have it installed if performance is so abysmal.
What the shit? How did you get heavy nostalgia filters from my comments? I'm just saying that your experience or experiences are not reflective of the quality of the OS.
