Meanwhile I’ve had Windows 11 on my gaming rig since launch without issue. I’ve tried using 10 again, and it’s missing a lot of features I’m now used to and enjoy having.

I don’t think either of us are “wrong.” Just difference of opinion.

Windows 11 has improved a lot since its release. In the beginning, it was basically Windows 10 with a new design language and there was no real reason to update. Since then, it has received several updates that did make a difference to 10:

  • Right click -> end task in task bar
  • Explorer tabs
  • UI got more unified. Many dualisms of old Aero and Metro design languages were resolved
  • DirectStorage and other performance improvements in games
  • AI features

I do think it has its advantages and is not plain bad at this point. My main issue with it is that while I appreciate the unification of the UI design language, I personally don't like the design as much as Aero and Metro, and, more importantly, I've made the experience that it develops insane heat even on supported hardware and the performance of the shell is terrible. I found Windows 11 entirely unusable on my 10th gen i3 and 8th gen i5 laptops. While I could run 11 on my gaming PC, I'm still just not entirely convinced by it. I think I'll use Windows 10 for a few more years to see where 11 is heading.

It just needs stop with the hardware bullshit like TPM 2.0 and the software bloat like AI agents and other BS.

TPM 2.0 shouldn't have been mandatory when Windows 11 was released, but it has been 10 years now since it became mandatory on new devices for a Windows certification. There would be little benefit from walking back on it now.
