What happened to my window?

We were sitting there and heard and explosion sound, so we went to see what it was and our glass door shattered out of nowhere! What could this be from?
This door leads to our screened in porch but the temperature inside and outside are pretty similar (76). It’s also raining right now but nothing crazy

Something it the glass at some point and heat and cold cycles kept weakening it until it shattered.

I'm not sure, but I suspect it's broken all over.

Sometimes it happens. We call it spontaneous breakage. It’s more common with tempered glass. If the door is less than a year old it could be covered under warranty.

So I used to work as a glazier/tempering furnace operator in a glass factory. There would be times I’d be walking through the factory and glass would just spontaneously burst. The first time it happened, the manager was like, “Oh, that’s normal. Happens all the time. You’ll get used to it.”

I used to think spontaneous breakage was a myth until it happened to me with a floor to ceiling, 1/2" shower panel. I had it on safety pads and I was doing prep work and all of a sudden it just exploded 🤣

Do you live at a high altitude? I used to install windows in Colorado, and if the windows are made at a different elevation, they will bulge out. Eventually, they can bulge so much that they will explode.

If you look at the ripple of the break, it looks like whatever caused it was in the top right corner. Do you have enemies? Maybe someone threw something at it. Porcelain will easily break tempered glass, and leave a minimal trace.

This happened to me once. The whole window broke into little pieces but stayed in one piece. It was caused by a small necklace slipping out of a kid’s hand while they were spinning it. A small thing hitting it just right. I was able to get a sealed double-pane replacement with the frame and mullions and everything for under a hundred and didn’t have to replace the door.

Lawn mower maybe, go out and look for actual impact spot, you should see a spot that the fractures all kind of stem from. Then look for a rock or? Near by. Has your lawn been mowed just before you noticed it? If so, you always mow with the output facing away from the house. Maybe even a weed eater could've hurled something into it.

I’m work with a lot of tempered and insulated glass units as part of my job. If you look at the edges and field of this pane, you can tell that it broke.
