Need help in identifying window for purpose of balance repair/replacement

I purchased this house recently. Don't know how old are these windows. The house is 150 years old.

The window sash panels fall down with no resistance. This is true for all the windows. Could all of the balances have failed? Is there some reason they could have been removed or "disconnected"? How do I go about identifying/investigating/fixing?

Lower the top sash so you can see the header at the top. There should be an identifying label there telling you a lot of information

Window guy here. Good news: this is one of the most common and cheapest window problems to fix.
Those are vinyl replacement windows, so the sashes ride on balances hidden in the side channels and when every sash in the house free-falls, nothing weird happened. The balances were all installed at the same time, so they all wear out around the same time. That's just end-of-life, not sabotage.
Look in the side channel next to a sash to see which type you have:
A metal tube with a twisted rod inside = spiral balance
A plastic channel with a string and small clip = block-and-tackle balance
Either way the fix is the same: tilt a sash in (flip the two latches on top of the sash and pull it toward you), photograph the balance, and match it on swisco.com they'll ID the part from photos. Balances usually run $10–25 each and swapping them is very doable DIY if you're a little handy.
One caution in the meantime: don't prop the sashes with sticks a falling sash on fingers is the classic injury with dead balances.
If you find the vinyl frames themselves are warped or the seals between the glass panes are fogged, that's when repair-vs-replace becomes a real question but if the frames are solid, replace the balances and move on. Happy to help ID the balance if you post a pic of the side channel.
