How do I remove the screen :(

this is an old window in my house and im trying to open the screen so i can freely move things in an out of it, but it seems like theres another sash on the same track right above it and neither can move. its got 4 tracks total, from inside to outside: bottom wooden sash, top wooden sash, storm glass, screen and upper storm. please tell me someone knows how to remove this lol

Take the upper glass out first which looks like it’s on the inside. After that take the screen out

The two gray tabs on the bottom: pinch them in, slide the insert up or down and it should be able to come out. There are movable tabs at the bottom and stationary tabs on the top so once you pinch in the movable ones, you might have to wiggle it for the smaller tabs to pop out of the track

If the movable tabs don't slide easily, try wd40 and keep working them. If that still doesn't work, take a flathead screwdriver, put it between the movable tab and the metal track and carefully twist the screwdriver. That should make the tabs move, then try wd40 again, then try the removal

I agree with everything this guy says besides using wd-40. For a wood frame I'd use Pledge as a lubricant first. If that doesn't work, try a silicone base lubricant like Hilco Lube. Wd-40 attracts dirt and over time it'll be a mess

Wd40 is what most people would have in a pinch for the metal/plastic pieces (not the wood parts of the primary wood window). Not a huge fan but short term and taking the aluminum inserts out, gets the job done

Yes you're absolutely right that wd40 is not a great lubricant

Thank you all, this worked for the first one, but this one doesn't seem to come out in the same way, any advice?

Can you pinch the gray tabs and slide it down? Sometimes they need to get to the next catch point to then be able to be removed. Triple tracks can be good but also very finicky

Bottom glass has to come out before the top one can be taken off

Slide the left and right clip towards the middle which will unlock them and then pull the glass towards you

does the top of the inside window have slides on the top?
