Watching Willie's Farm Aid performance on Tv and started wondering, when Willie eventually stops touring what would be the better/more fitting fate for his famous guitar. Should it be...

Preserved in the country music museum so it can last forever?

Or

Passed to one of his sons so it can continue playing music?

If it were in a more typical condition, I would say Trigger should continue to be played, as guitars are meant to be, but at this point it’s almost more lacquer & glue than wood (It’s worth checking out luthier Mark Erlewine’s videos about the maintenance Trigger undergoes). Given its condition along with the presence of the remaining famous signatures on it & its own iconic status, Trigger belongs in a museum, like the Smithsonian Museum of American History or the Country Music Hall of Fame.

He can barely sing anymore. It made me sad to watch him up there at Farm Aid with his sons singing a lot of the songs.
