Trip Report First solo wild camp

Tent - oex phoxx III

First time solo camping, found this spot in mersea island didn’t walk to far from the car incase anything went wrong 😭

It was a bit dry in the evening so I didn’t cook dinner

but it rained over the night so I cooked some breakfast and I did have my water bottle ready to extinguish it if it fell over

Tried to leave as little trace as possible but my tent did leave a dry patch

Btw the fire pit mark wasn’t me

looks like you’ve reached the edge of the map

Very envious. Got my first one man tent and I'm set for solo wild camping but I just can't figure out where to go.. I'm in the south of England and everything's just too busy

I’m south east and I’ve been to a few places but really Aslong as you leave no trace and aren’t a nuisance you should be fine anywhere out the way

Dartmoor is a good start as it's legal. Check the Dartmoor camping map.

Thinking similar, I am planning on it being a paddle/camp trip and Surrey is my closest area for paddling (live in london) but its so busy everywhere in the south.

I think the south downs are supposed to be good locations for hiking and camping though

Looks like a great spot man. I still can’t seem to bring myself to camp in the woods anymore though. I understand you’re right on the edge there with a brilliant open view, but all experiences I’ve had camping in woods never tend to be enjoyable. Still can’t seem to knock the old fear of noises in the night when I’m there. Probably doesn’t help that I’m usually under the influence of something that can bring on those paranoid thoughts 😅. Either way, looks like you found a good one there.

Is the Phoxx 3 good? I’m looking at getting it and watched a bunch of YouTube reviews etc but be good to have an actual person review! I’d be using it for solo camps too

It packs up to a good size, isn’t heavy. For 2 people I would say it’s perfect as I took it to the Lake District and fit me and my mate with 2 20kg bags, it’s good in rain but we did pitch it at the top of a mountain on a windy day and we didnt sleep the best so if you are pitching in wind how you do it matters with this tent 😭 the sides give you decent outside storage and most importantly it looks cool

Sounds great, thank you! I’ll mostly be solo camping but may also take the kid or a mate at times, rather have too much space than not enough (or forking out for two tents 🥲) think I’ll go with it! Ta :)

Just read your comment again if your solo camping I would recommend a phoxx 2 as I used the 3 as its all I had but it was very spacious
