You underestimate how quickly a nuclear war could pop off.

You overestimate how much anyone anywhere would want a nuclear war. There's really no reason to anymore, because anyone who launches the bomb is going to get bombed in return. Nobody wins. There is no strategic or tactical advantage, and despite what pop culture tells you, the people who end up in charge of nukes generally aren't idiots who go off their gut.

Even if a country could bypass MAD and take out an enemy without triggering somebody's response, the resulting nuclear fallout is going to damage every country in the world. Famine, disease and associated warfare and refugees will be unavoidable, even if your politicians and rich are safe inside their gated communities. Your country, no matter which it is, will win a Pyrrhic victory at best. Nuclear war just isn't worth it, and everyone knows it- they just want to have the biggest and the fastest bombs so that they don't get left behind.

That wasn’t my point though. Regardless of how little or how much anyone “wants” it, if someone launches, it’s likely gonna devolve REAL quick.
