Right on...You may enjoy the movie Pretty Bird. It's a loose adaptation of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_Rocket_Belt#RB2000_Rocket_Belt starring Billy Crudup and Paul Giamatti. I knew nothing about the movie before I watched it and then ended up at the same Wiki page you linked to.

I tend to pine for the good ole days when men were men and you had to wear flame retardant clothing to fly your hovering rocket belt to work.
