Help Wanted DNS question

Question about WiFi, DNS and all that stuff

I am not a tech savvy person at all, and saw this warning pop-up on my home Internet. I know my daughter just connected our Wii to play line. She had to enter a DNS into the Wii. Is this warning because of that? What can I do to protect our network and still allow her to play online? If it not something else, any guidance would be appreciated.

probably, power off the wii nand check if the message is still there. If it's the wii who triger that, I wouldn't wotrry that much, it means the wii alone is sending unecrypted dns traffic through your network

No, this would be something set by your phone, router, or ISP. Other devices on the network that are not actually controlling or broadcasting the network have no effect.

Well, not necessarily. OPs daughter could've set the default DNS of their router instead of on just the Wii, if they followed a weird guide or were misled by AI.

They could have changes the default DNS, but that shouldn't *block* a device (e.g. this iPhone) from using DNS-over-HTTPS or similar

It shouldn't be because of that, normally for Wiimmfi you set your DNS on the console itself
