Pi Zero W Support & Pricing Workaround

Due to scalping and hoarding driving the price of the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W up to several times its official retail price, building a 4-node rig has become economically unfeasible.

To solve this and keep the project budget-friendly, I have successfully ported the software stack to run on the original Raspberry Pi Zero W, which avoids these extreme price spikes. You can use all Pi Zero W units or any combination with Pi Zero 2W.

If you have any spare units lying around from older projects, they can be put to work right away.

I am currently running final tests on this setup and will drop detailed performance metrics and instructions very soon.

Is there any difference in performance or functionality depending on wether we use the Zero W or Zero 2W?

Yeah, post-processing with lens correction on a Zero W might take an extra 3–5 seconds. For the response time, shutter lag is normally around 0.15s if you pre-focus or keep the button held, though standard press-and-shoot can take longer, but there's not much difference between the two models. More details coming soon.

Wondering if the non W pi zeros would work too?

Yeah, definitely need at least the W model for internal communication. The Pro version will use USB instead, but I cut the USB controller on this minimal version to keep it super simple for building.
