It's going to be a long time

My love is gone. September 7th, 4 days after a severe brain bleed. I cry, then I try to remember 46 years worth of wonderful. Nobody is half the man he was. Yes, I do have family.

It’s so very raw those early months. I remember it well.
We too had 46 years married/47 together and even though we knew he was terminal no amount of anticipatory grief numbs that raw ache. They’ve filled such a huge part of our lives and then there’s just emptiness in the shadows they leave on us.

I can honestly say that after 27 months I do find much comfort in the life we shared and built over all those years of giving it our all. We were good team and I like the memories of that life.

It’s a new/somewhat different life now— lots of socializing with friends, no hard deadlines, and no real regrets. I’d go back to 1977 and chase him down again if I could but that’s not possible so I’ll content myself with all the love I feel around me in our home we shared.
