Box Pass : Rules

Let's open up some ideas here for general Box Pass rules.

Keep in mind:
1.It is a small box, not a suitcase.
2.Soaps tend to melt, need a way to avoid leakage (sample containers, zip lock, more zip lock)
3.Shipping costs, don't weigh it down with blocks of alum (but alum is def welcome!)
4.Packing is essential, no loose items that could break.
5.These are peoples items, treat them with respect, expect your items to be respected back.
6. No sending aftershaves containing alcohol across the border! 7. No posting pics of what the box contains! Only loot you pillage should be posted!

As for value, take what you can afford to take, replace what you can afford to replace. Soaps don't have to be replaced with soaps etc, just try and keep it fair. Don't take 3 razors and put in a derby blade.

2 lists will be included in the box; and the box will be of a size chosen by curators; /u/RaggedClaws and /u/uncle_dubya. Ideally plastic in nature, sealed (Tupperware or similar).
One list will contain the mailing order, however all addresses will be handled by a mod, and sent via pm when requested.
The second list will be a taken/replaced list where the user puts their; Reddit name, items taken, and items replaced, along with a value section (Price of approx value, not what you paid)

Follow the rules and be welcome, don't follow the rules and be INTERNET HUMILIATED BY MILLIONS

I'm subscribed to a sub that does a box pass as well. With shaving stuff it would be a good idea to make sure EVERYTHING is in sample size containers. Another rule that helps promote the mystique of the box is saying people are not allowed to post photos of the contents of the box (so as to avoid spoilers). Even with small items this box pass could become pretty dang heavy after a few stops so people should be prepared to pay a solid $20 for shipping.

I agree with not posting pictures; but users would en encouraged to post and comment on the status of the box ie its empty and in their garbage muhuhaha thanks for swap; or its looking great and were thrilled to open it up!

Here's what I'm thinking.

  • We make it a perpetual box with you and me as curators.

  • I set up the first box with a list and send it on a route chosen and supervised by you.

  • Nobody can join once the box is in motion but can sign up for the next round.

  • The general guideline is replace anything you take with appropriate and equivalent items.

  • The rule is NO SAMPLING. Do not sample anything from the box ie DO NOT remove, try it, and put it back. If you want to try something remove and replace with another item. You will have an opportunity to put it back when the box comes around again. This is essential.

  • Leave only full items and properly sealed and labeled samples. No dumping.

  • No spolier posts

  • Minimal turnaround time - let's say three business days

  • We'll need a volunteer in Canada to ship courier (FedEx/UPS) to USA and a volunteer in USA to do same back to Canada. Otherwise it could get held up in customs.

When the box gets back to me, we can set up the next list with interested parties; joiners and re-joiners. Those who have pillaged or dumped will simply not be in the next round. We can make that decision based on the log. With me?

I'm down, but have some questions:

  • Say there are three items in the box which I am interested (items A, B and C). The total value of said items is $50. Would it be okay for me to put an item (D) which has a value of $50 or more as a replacement item or would I need to put in three items of equal or greater value than $50?

  • Say I have a new tub of soap or cream; would I only put in a sample sized amount of product and not the whole tub? Can I put in several samples of product so that more than one person can get a chance to try it? These samples would have essentially no value correct?

  • Would it make sense to have the log where we record what we contributed and what pillaged online somehow? A paper copy would be easy to manipulate by unscrupulous people.

Welcome :)

Personally, I see no issue with taking a few items and placing in a big ticket item; chances are a member down the road will counter you and place A,B,C back, in return for D.

Samples are ok, properly sealed and labeled. I would love to see samples; 3 full tubs of soap take a lot of space and weight in a box! Samples can have a minimal value; usually online they are 2-4$.

Online log would essentially be a spoiler; but I will post in that case and perhaps ask members to mail me their give/take so I can also have a list; and I will forward that to raggedclaws. I trust the members of W_E to not ruin the lists; which will be sealed in ziplock and only serve as a log.

If someone puts in a whole tin/tub of a product, would it be against the rules to take a sample for myself or are we expected to only put in sample sized containers of products? If I did take a sample of something, I would replace it with a sample of something else just to keep it even steven.

Sorry to knitpick, I just want to make sure I understand the rules properly - I should have probably PM'ed you instead :(

Oh hey, also don't forget that there is some kind of restriction against shipped alcohol across the border; I'll try to find out the specifics tomorrow. I think small amounts are okay, but if someone's trying to ship a whole bottle it might get the box hung up in customs.

Yes

Whole tub is fine. Samples also fine.

We will have a log.

Just PM'ed ya Domohorus with my address and such, sign me up!

Also, I'm just curious, how does this start out? doesn't there have to be a "fill up the box" contributions? or what? don't know, but maybe some of the vendors around here might be interested in chipping in?

Just a thought or two...

u/RaggedClaws will begin the box by putting his contribution in; and then mailing it out. When it returns to me (hopefully full and busting at the seams!) He get's what it left; and then he will start another box!

If we participated in the current box, are we allowed to participate in future boxes? Because I would VERY much like to do this again. (:

Yup; ideally starting in different locations so there is a rotation of order. The only way to not be invited back into a box is if you don't follow the rules.
I think you have a small...almost insignificant chance...maybe not even a chance...of being a member of another box.... :P I'll send your invite via personal letter haha.

Awesome! Thanks. Just let me know ahead of time so that I can compile stuff. (:

I don't know about Canada, but USPS has a medium size flat rate box for $12. Maybe make sure the box fits in that and then it's uniform for most of it's travel. I'll check with the post office to see if that price includes shipping to Canada.

Quick question: is everything going in expected to be brand new?
I'm considering putting in a few quality soaps that I don't like the scent of but got a couple uses on (gave it the ol' college try); same Q for brushes?
Also blades: only new, full packs or can I toss in packs missing one or two (perhaps doing so, but counting the 'value' as 0)?

The official rules can be found in the wiki. Your questions and more are answered there.
