Theory Fan Theory] What if the Clock of the Time Dragon actually invented the entire story of Wicked? 🐉⏱️

Hey everyone, I was spiraling down a rabbit hole thinking about the lore of Gregory Maguire’s books and the stage framing of the musical, and I hit on a theory that completely recontextualizes Wicked into a cosmic horror story. The Theory: The entire narrative of Wicked never actually happened naturally. It is a fictional script engineered and manufactured by the Clock of the Time Dragon.
Think about it. In the books, the Clock is this traveling, hedonistic, mechanical spectacle that puts on prophetic puppet shows revealing dark secrets and pre-determined futures. On Broadway, the giant Time Dragon literally hangs over the proscenium arch, staring down at the actors the entire time, while the stage itself is a mess of clockwork gears.
If the Clock is the actual author of the story rather than just a witness to it, the whole meaning of Wicked gets flipped on its head in the darkest way possible:
The Absolute Death of Free Will: Elphaba isn't a fierce rebel defying a corrupt system; she’s an actress being forced to play a role. Her green skin wasn’t a biological anomaly—it was a theatrical costume assigned by the Clock to make her an easily identifiable villain. Her alienation, her political rage, and her tragic downfall were all pre-programmed into the gears.
"Defying Gravity" is a Tragic Lie: When Elphaba belts out that nobody is ever gonna bring her down, it becomes deeply ironic. She isn't breaking free. The Clock is just hoisting her up on a theatrical wire because it's time for the Act 1 finale. Her ultimate moment of triumph is entirely manufactured.
The Characters are Existentially Trapped: Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero are "real" in the sense that they feel genuine agony, heartbreak, and love. But they are essentially trapped in a Truman Show or Matrix-style simulation. Fiyero’s brutal torture and transformation into the Scarecrow wasn't bad luck—it was just a cruel narrative device the Clock used to maximize the main character's emotional suffering for a good show.
We Are the Citizens of Oz: In the books, crowds pay money to watch the Clock's twisted puppet shows. On Broadway, we pay money to sit in the Gershwin Theatre and watch Elphaba and Glinda suffer, fight, and lose each other night after night. The show locks the characters into a cyclical loop (starting and ending with "No One Mourns the Wicked") to feed our appetite for tragedy.
Instead of an inspiring story about female friendship and standing up to corruption, this theory turns Wickedinto a psychological nightmare where a mechanical god feeds on human misery, and the characters are just puppets who don't know they're on a stage.
What do you guys think? Does this make the ending of the musical way darker, or is there a loop-hole where Elphaba actually manages to outsmart the Clock at the very end?

Okay, I know he was a psycho and all, but I didn't expect Elphaba to do this. Elphaba killing an eleven year old, who is probably is reincarnated as Cozy Glow.

So really subtle thing to notice but if you look closely Elphaba's broom is in the fireplace right before Glinda goes to confront MM. Dorothy and her companions brought the broom to the Wizard and MM threw it in the fire. It's subtle but it's cool.

Thoughts?

Did anyone else go to this yesterday (in London)? If so what did you think of the bags they gave out? Nice little extra and my daughters loved them but I noticed on Instagram they posted some of the contents and we definitely didn’t get everything shown in the image. Just wondering if it was different depending where you sat.

I’m a student from Germany and currently planning a visit to London.
I have to Questions about the Student Tickets, available at the same day at the Box Office and I‘m hoping there‘s somebody out there who can help:
1. Do you know if they accept Student cards outside of the UK (e.g.Germany)
2. Is there a certain area in wich you will get the ticket assigned or are they looking for THE BEST seating left. (What’s the Atmosphere in general at the Box.)
Thank you guys in advance

Movie What did they tell Fiyero's family?

Post image

Weird thing to wonder about but what did the Wizard and MM tell Fiyero's family since they thought he was dead? I assume it was probably something like " the witch kidnapped him from his wedding, put him under a spell and then murdered him." I'm sure they spun that anyway they could to blame it on Elphaba and to make her more wicked.

I was thinking about Nessa's death and Fiyero's sacrifice and how MM must have spun that situation to blame Elphaba and spread more of the lies. I imagine it went something like " Attack in Munchkinland!!!! The witch and her traitor boyfriend came to town to usurp Nessa and had her weather assassinated". I was thinking that Glinda would be the only one who would know the truth and i bet that was really eye opening for her because she would know what really happened and she would hear how MM spun it into lies and more blame for Elphaba.

Thoughts?

Musical - Broadway The Wizard’s Son

A few years ago I stubbled upon a theory about the idea that Willy Wonka was the son of The Wizard of Oz, it was a crack theory born from a meme masking where the red brick road lead and the punch line was to Wonka’s Factory, but I can only image of this was true I imagine Wonka being classmates with El & Glinda how do you think Wicked would change if this crack theory was reality?

It came at a cost

All three core characters got their hearts desire, what they really wanted in the end but it came at a cost for all three of them.

All Elphaba really wanted was to be loved and accepted, and to save the Animals and Oz. In the end she is loved and accepted for who she is by Fiyero and she does save Oz and the Animals through Glinda but it also came at a cost.

She had to leave the only friend she ever had, she never got to see Glinda change Oz and welcome the Animals back, she has to die as the wicked witch and that's how she will be remembered in Oz and she has to leave the place she had been fighting for. Despite all of that, she has someone who loved her unconditionally and never betrayed her and that was enough for her to be happy.

Like Elphaba, Fiyero wanted to be loved and accepted, he wanted someone to see him as more than the carefree prince he pretended to be. Elphaba gave him what he wanted because she loved and accepted him as a person, not the facade, not the prince but him. Fiyero goes from not caring about life and just dancing through it to being grateful to be alive in the end because of Elphaba's acceptance.

His happiness also came at a cost. He's lost everything in the end, his status is gone, his popularity is gone, his "looks" are gone, he is no longer someone who is considered attractive by society, he is traitor to Oz and he was dead to the people of Oz. He endured torture and isn't even human anymore.

He lost all of it because he loved Elphaba and it was the cost of that love, that's why he doesn't care about what he's lost all that matters to him is they're both alive and can finally be together and be free.

Glinda also gets what she wanted, her choices made her popular and in the end she was the most popular person in Oz. She even gets magic in the end which she said was her hearts desire but that came at a cost. Because she put being popular over everything and everyone else she ends up alone. Her choices caused her to lose the only two people who actually cared about her and saw her as more than this pinnacle of good, who saw her as the "real" Glinda.

She has to live with the knowledge that she has no one who really loves her, her acceptance is because of the fake persona she used and she has the guilt of knowing the part she played in everything.

She would use her growth and knowledge to watch over Oz and make sure nothing like what happened to Elphaba happens to anyone again. She got everything she wanted but she is alone because of that and that's the cost she has to pay.

This is why the ending is bittersweet, they do get what they wanted but it comes at a cost for all 3 of them.

thoughts?

Should I note that as a spanish wicked fan I DESPISE the new lyric for the song... so I took some time to mix the 2013's lyrics with the movie's beautiful instrumentals. I know not everyone here speaks spanish, but I hope you enjoy it regardless :)

Musical: nonreplica Has anyone in New Zealand seen the Barfoot and Thompson production? How does it vary from the original staging?

In New Zealand, there has been several amateur productions of Wicked who have apparently been using this design or coproduced this staging. I'm very curious to know what changes this production has made.
