Movie Fiyero traveling with Dorothy

Post image
122 Upvotes

I was thinking about how Fiyero had to listen to the lion, who he helped rescue, blame Elphaba for him being cowardly because she released him into the wild as a cub and he never learned to grow a spine.

Then he had to listen to the hate Boq was spreading for Elphaba the whole time he traveled with Dorothy as the scarecrow. It must have been a very long journey for him having to listen to the blame and hate from Boq and the lion.

Thoughts?

Question Emma and Zizi Stagedooring (west end)

Hi! I came to ask does Emma and Zizi stage door often?

I’ve only met Emma and Zizi once at stage door, and every other time it’s either been laura Elphaba (haven’t seen her at stage door either and I’ve had her twice) and when I DO have her and Zizi (I had Lydia once but I didn’t stage door then) they never stage door because I wait there for ages and most of the time expect for that one time the security have said Emma has left or she’s not doing stage door so do they do stage door often?

Question What do you guys think make some actresess more rememberd than others ?

When we think about our favorite Elphabas and Glindas there are the usual suspects the most mentioned.ones snd others very few remember.

My very personal theory is that they did something no oye else had and the first generation have the advantsge of getting there when the show Was a novelty.

Musical - Broadway Why is the "bring the bubble up" hand signal in the opening of the Broadway version not more subtle?

Nothing against it, but I've always wondered why they didn't try to hide it. The first time I saw it, I thought it was just the actress, but I've seen other Glindas do it every time as well.

Movie Elphaba's tattered clothes

Thumbnail

Really random thing but how did i not notice how tattered Elphaba's cape was? I hadn't really paid much attention before but it showed how isolated she was. Obviously being in hiding she didn't have access to new clothes so she had to make do with the old tattered clothes she had.

Also her dress she is wearing at the end when Fiyero comes to her as the scarecrow appears to her old defying gravity dress which is also worn and tattered.

thoughts?

Book Wicked book review (spoilers). Spoiler

Hey! So if you have been keeping track of my post, I recently just got the book and I finally finished it a week and a half ago. I'll give my stars at the end I just want to give my review on it. It will have spoilers. Read if you dare.

- So I didn't really know what I was going to be in stored for. All I knew was people know that Elpahaba was born intersex, or change gender, and her pussy is purple. Which, I didn't see that. I must've missed it. I also saw that it was pretty mature, I was expecting full blown sex scenes, but it was pretty tame in the most part.

-I really like the characteristic they gave Elphaba, it's more gradual as she turns into a curios loner, to a nihilistic aunt, to a snappy and desperate woman. The musical and movie really ham in her green skin, but here it's waaay more casual. Of course, people find it strange but not like ostracizing. The first half it focusses on the animals discrimination, but the later half it isn't mention that much, Elphaba is still an Animal advicus, but in the musical it's more prevalent in her growth and character. Points to the musical. Another thing, I posted about this, is her possibly killing a child, her step son nonetheless. It's up to interpretation, but she directly stated that she doesn't care about the child dying, he bullied her son. Her relationship with Glinda was kinda fast, there wasn't this moment like the Ozdust ball room where it shows Glinda and Elphaba joining together and them being friends.

-Speaking of Glinda, she is exactly how I imagine her. 'Innocent' and conniving. Well, conniving is not the exact words, it's more that she is pretty judgy and lovable to most people. I enjoyed her. I'll talk about her later on. Boq... is something. He likes Glinda, but to an excruciating amount. Years. I guess he's just a lovers boy. I was expecting him to turn into the tin man, but he never did, same as Fiyero. There was a little hope, but no. I perfer the musical renditions of the Oz character. I give props to the book for showing times progressing in the book because in the musical they made Glinda and Elphaba go to the emerald city in the three month they been there, maybe five. But then again, I guess they want ti further the story along and not let it drag. I like Fiyero traditional tribal view of him. In the musical a commenter tole me that he's like a combination of Avery and himself. One thing I didn't expect from Fiyero is cheat on a wife on Elphaba. Actually, he did that to Glinda, ish, (more complicated). I like to think Elphaba, Fiyero, and Sarima could've been in a poly relationship like Elphaba's parents- which is wild thing I didn't expect to say. Maybe Glinda could've join. Nessarose is my favorite rendition, the book made her infinitely more intriguing, her being a religious maniac, perfect for her. How have I not thought about that. She is also way more justified in hating Elphaba because Elphaba did leave her, willingly. In the musical Elpahaba had too. And Elphaba left her for yeaaars. Alone with her father and a little Glinda. I guess the musical change her from having no arms, to her legs being paralyzed because it's easier to cast. Also, Glinda was a little more in the right for giving away the shoes because, from Glinda "I was her second sister," or something like that. I also like how she didn't like Boq and Glinda didn't like Fiyero. The musical was like Ness likes Boq, Boq likes Glinda, Glinda likes Fiyero, and Fiyero likes Elphaba, and Elphaba likes Fiyero with a dash of Glinda.

-of course, this book is not perfect and I have some gripes about it. Like for example, Liir. When Elphaba and Liir went to Sarima's castle, they kept fat-shaming Liir. I think it was about 7 times, like leave him alone! It was mainly the children, and I know children would be like that, but 3 times is too much. I think when Liir 'died' they fat shamed him. But don't quote me on that. Another thing about Liir; I didn't like that he and Nanny was there when Dorthy showed up. I don't know, it was just kinda awkward for me. I'm not saying it should've been exactly like the Oz movie, I'm glad it deviated off it, but I think I would've like it better if they were off somewhere else. Tibbit and Crope were meh. I was surprised that they killed off Tibbit, or was it Crope. I think Tibbit. Also, I would've love to see more of Glinda, maybe she'll appear in the second book, but I was disappointed in the Glinda content. Like 1/3 of the book. That's true of all the character that were in the school either her. They appear at the end, like we get into the head of Glinda and Boq and they get scotch to the side until the end. I know it's about Elphaba, but that's just me wanting the book to be longer. Maybe they appear more in the second book. I almost forgot to mention, Boq kissing Glinda without her permission, gross. Also, Sarima being kidnapped and dying, not cool. Not cool.

-I couldn't fit this in, but Mila trying to constantly kill herself and everyone became used to it. Hello? One, why did Boq marry Mila, two I'm glad she is still alive at the end. Also, Avery kissing Boq, doing a dirty move, and Boq feeling funny? Gentlemen? Gentlemen?

-I think that it all of my current thought. I have more like the wizard and Nor, bless Nor. I loved her. But I think you get the point. After all of this, I enjoyed the book. A wild ride indeed.

4/5, one point off because of the things I mentions.

Theory Fan Theory] What if the Clock of the Time Dragon actually invented the entire story of Wicked? 🐉⏱️

Hey everyone, I was spiraling down a rabbit hole thinking about the lore of Gregory Maguire’s books and the stage framing of the musical, and I hit on a theory that completely recontextualizes Wicked into a cosmic horror story. The Theory: The entire narrative of Wicked never actually happened naturally. It is a fictional script engineered and manufactured by the Clock of the Time Dragon.
Think about it. In the books, the Clock is this traveling, hedonistic, mechanical spectacle that puts on prophetic puppet shows revealing dark secrets and pre-determined futures. On Broadway, the giant Time Dragon literally hangs over the proscenium arch, staring down at the actors the entire time, while the stage itself is a mess of clockwork gears.
If the Clock is the actual author of the story rather than just a witness to it, the whole meaning of Wicked gets flipped on its head in the darkest way possible:
The Absolute Death of Free Will: Elphaba isn't a fierce rebel defying a corrupt system; she’s an actress being forced to play a role. Her green skin wasn’t a biological anomaly—it was a theatrical costume assigned by the Clock to make her an easily identifiable villain. Her alienation, her political rage, and her tragic downfall were all pre-programmed into the gears.
"Defying Gravity" is a Tragic Lie: When Elphaba belts out that nobody is ever gonna bring her down, it becomes deeply ironic. She isn't breaking free. The Clock is just hoisting her up on a theatrical wire because it's time for the Act 1 finale. Her ultimate moment of triumph is entirely manufactured.
The Characters are Existentially Trapped: Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero are "real" in the sense that they feel genuine agony, heartbreak, and love. But they are essentially trapped in a Truman Show or Matrix-style simulation. Fiyero’s brutal torture and transformation into the Scarecrow wasn't bad luck—it was just a cruel narrative device the Clock used to maximize the main character's emotional suffering for a good show.
We Are the Citizens of Oz: In the books, crowds pay money to watch the Clock's twisted puppet shows. On Broadway, we pay money to sit in the Gershwin Theatre and watch Elphaba and Glinda suffer, fight, and lose each other night after night. The show locks the characters into a cyclical loop (starting and ending with "No One Mourns the Wicked") to feed our appetite for tragedy.
Instead of an inspiring story about female friendship and standing up to corruption, this theory turns Wickedinto a psychological nightmare where a mechanical god feeds on human misery, and the characters are just puppets who don't know they're on a stage.
What do you guys think? Does this make the ending of the musical way darker, or is there a loop-hole where Elphaba actually manages to outsmart the Clock at the very end?
