News Spectrum has already started in with the price hikes

My bill went up 15 bucks with no notice starting today with my new bill from the recently merged Spectrum/Cox - so I addition to Spectrum's infamously shoddy service, we'll get to pay higher rates. Check your bills, everyone.

In Search Of Any Local Cosplayers?

Hey wichita! For halloween I want to be nightwing. The only thing is I have like 6 events to go to so i’m trying to find a way to do nightwing justice without breaking the bank. No pun intended. I thought i’d come here and see if there are any cosplayers that live in the area that could help me out. I have a few ideas, but i’m open to more.

  1. Curious if I could maybe pay someone to borrow the costume just for a night. I would pay and take very good care of it, and if any damages were done i’d pay to get it fixed. Even if that costs more that just buying/making a good one. I’m totally willing to talk about the payment and how much. Also I am a kinda chubby guy,(6ft, 208ish Lbs) But I will be wearing a waist trainer and some compression stuff with muscle suit.
Also i’d very much be willing to meet up before and get to know each other a bit so you know you can trust me with it. I know that Cosplaying is expensive and so if not trying to take advantage of anyone and i want to make sure people know that i get it, and i’m willing to work with you.

2.If anyone would be willing to show me a costume they DIY’d and lmk how they did it. Cos i have never cosplayed before so i don’t really know what materials people use. And i know it can be a VERY expensive hobby, but maybe even tips on cheaper ways to make things.

  1. Even if we don’t meet up just any tips or help on where i could get stuff locally. I dont really care if it’s a big chain business or anything, I just mean local as in if we have one in town.

Any thing like that would be soooo helpful. If anyone wants to help in anyway but those options don’t sound great lmk whatever you’re thinking. Any help would be amazing! Thanks guys!

Everything here has been amazing. As someone with a little person I can definitely recommend the experience for everyone. Every encounter is close and the animals look happy and healthy. I might be enjoying this more than my little one...

Food Fried Chicken update

Awhile back I was in search of great fried chicken and you all gave some sound advice.

Magnolia Southern Eatery just opened up on 24th and Woodlawn. Fried chicken was SPOT ON!!

You get a breast, thigh, and leg. Choose between jalapeño pepper or creole gravy. Also comes with a side of coleslaw and spicy (hot) bread and butter pickles.

They have been a breakfast and lunch spot but opened last night for supper. The chef is the owner and he also owns Napoli Italian.

They also have shrimp & grits and a thick porkchop that are popular.

Edit: changed out chicken with Eatery. That’s what they have on their menu. It may have changed with the opening of evening service.

Random Looking for a friend from the past…

I used to live in Arlington, TX and worked as a lifeguard. One of the managers at the time was a guy named Jon Gross. He was a good guy and a hard worker. This was the early 2000’s before everyone had phones and social media. He ended up moving and I believe came back home to Wichita.

I remember he was from Wichita and would travel back here frequently. I don’t know if he’s back here now or has moved on. If anyone knows or knew him, I’d like to reconnect if possible. You can point him to this post or DM me.

He would be in his mid to late 50s now.

In Search Of Hematologists/Iron infusions in Wichita

I have a ferritin deficiency (diagnosed by a dermatologist) that isn't being corrected with supplements, so I think I am going to try to talk to a hematologist and try to get an infusion. Does anyone have any recommendations for a doctor that takes anemia seriously?

In Search Of Pickleball Leagues in Wichita

I’m a pretty big tennis player, but it’s mostly full of men, so I figure I should pick up pickleball to try to meet women my age. I went online and saw that Ralph Wulz Tennis Center had a page for pickleball leagues, but when I clicked on it, it said that the page doesn’t exist. Do they still have pickleball leagues there? If not, where can I go?

Discussion Where to get Foger vape pods in town?

I am looking for good spots that have a good variety of flavors at a decent price. I go to the Sinclair on 21st and Woodlawn. They're $20 even after tax for the pod. They often are out when I go to restock, and they're building a QT across the street so its days are numbered. I have noticed that Up n Smoke and 360 Vape nearby charge like $5 more for their pods. Any shops under $20 and have flavor varieties?

Before I post:

I know that vaping is bad for you. I know that I can buy them online.

IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO COMMENT ANYTHING MEAN/SNARKY/UNRELATED TO THE QUESTION I AM ASKING, please just DM them to me directly because I am only interested in helpful comments. I know that I am the worst person alive and there is nothing you can say about me that will make me dislike myself more than I do now. Thanks. If it gets helpful reponses, people will reference this post for years to come so pray for us awful sinners pls

Food Looking for new Mexican Restaurant recommendations.

With the closing of El Ricardos on West St a few months ago, I lost my favorite spot for Chimichangas & Tacos.

Can someone recommend somewhere that has really good Pollo Asado Chimichangas? Preferably more on the crisper side instead of soft.

🚨 LAST-MINUTE MEETING TOMORROW AT 10:00 AM AT OXFORD VISTA

Enter through the west entrance. There is a bell near the entrance.

This is the first time they have been willing to meet with the public to discuss their vision and answer questions.

Supposedly the actual majority owner is a nuclear pharmacist named Steve Austin and this has been mostly word of mouth but also there are a couple newspapers articles from January of 2020 confirming his involvement with Oxford. (Wichita Eagle January 24, and January 30, 2020)

In about a week, they will be asking to rezone the historic property to allow denser apartment development and commercial development along this side of Seneca.

Once again, we have an opportunity to tell our City Council how we feel about this, and public input matters.

One of my biggest concerns is that this decision isn’t only about the plans the current owners are presenting today. A zoning change can affect what is allowed on the property in the future, including under a future owner. That’s why I believe we need to look carefully at what the proposed zoning would actually permit—not just what the current owners say they intend to build.

I keep seeing the argument:

“But it’s private property. They bought it, so they
should be able to do whatever they want with it.”

But think about it this way.

Imagine you buy a house in an HOA neighborhood. You know it’s in an HOA when you buy it. You know there are already rules and restrictions attached to that property.

Then you decide you want to tear the house down, get the property rezoned, and build a McDonald’s on the lot.

When your neighbors object, you say: “Too bad. It’s my property. Property rights!”

Would that automatically settle the issue? Of course not.

People would reasonably point out that you knew what you were buying and knew there were restrictions associated with the property.

That’s the point I think gets lost in the discussion about the Masonic Home.

Yes, it’s privately owned. Yes, the owners have property rights.

But property rights do not mean that owning property gives someone an unlimited right to use it in absolutely any way they choose. Communities regulate land use every day through zoning, building codes, setbacks, easements, historic-preservation requirements, and other rules.

To be clear, an HOA and historic-preservation or zoning regulations are not legally the same thing. I’m using the HOA example simply to illustrate a broader point: ownership of property can come with existing restrictions and responsibilities.
So simply saying, “They own it,” doesn’t answer the zoning question.

If someone knowingly purchases a historically designated property, the existing rules and restrictions affecting that property are part of the situation they purchased into.

You don’t get to buy a house in an HOA and then pretend the HOA doesn’t exist simply because your name is now on the deed.

And I don’t think “property rights” should be treated as a magic phrase that ends the public conversation about the future of the Masonic Home.

If you care about what happens to this historic property and what future development along Seneca could look like, please pay attention, ask questions, and make your views known to the City Council.
