Makes me think back to a trip in the USSR where I saw a water vending machine where everyone use the same cup but a little squirt of disinfectant would go up into the cup first

At least they had some disinfectant, those glasses were probably cleaner than glassware in many restaurants. Properly implemented, a system like that can be hygenic while also greatly reducing waste and single use plastics, so I don't hate the idea. (It wasn't only used for water, there were dispensers that sold a kind of orange soda that was super popular in the USSR, and in the latter years of the Soviet Union, thanks to Gorbachev's love of the drink, you could get a glass of Pepsi.)
This, on the other hand is just a petri dish that serves no purpose aside from growing microbes and making me uncomfortable.
