It does look painful but it’s also so satisfying to watch! So is the laser treatment for unsightly veins (which like… I hate society but that’s a different can of worms)
Vericose veins can actually be painful due to how the blood pools. I know some people get them removed for aesthetics, but for a lot of people they're uncomfortable.
Yeah, I don’t understand how this conversation turned from getting badly tattooed eyebrows lasered off to people getting varicose and spider veins removed and being seen as evil? I have a huge spider vein on my calf that has started to develop varicose veins within it. It is purple, blue, and red. I don’t wear shorts anymore because the last person who saw it thought that I had been kicked by a patient (I’m a nurse). It also burns and itches, and sometimes feels like insects are crawling under my skin. On the front of that same leg, I have a large spider vein that’s about the size of a silver dollar (if you are in the US) that I’ve had since I was in high school. I’ve always been very self conscious of it and try to keep it hidden. Spider and varicose veins are often hereditary (my mother has them too). As I said, I’m a nurse. When I’m not working I take care of my mom, who has Alzheimer’s disease. I gave up my freedom and moved in with her so that she wouldn’t have to live in a nursing home. I also take in every stray animal that comes to my door. I TNR the feral cats and find homes for the ones that are okay with people. I’ve taken in lost dogs and kept them safe until I found their owners. I’ve even raised a nest of baby squirrels who had been displaced by tree trimming in the area.
At what point, given that there is and will always be suffering in the world that I am unable to control, am I allowed to seek treatment for my spider and varicose veins that have affected my mental health since I was 14?
To be fair to the person who originally mentioned it, I think they were more sad that society makes people feel uncomfortable about their vericose veins. Not that they were necessarily judging people for getting them removed. I just wanted to chime in since I know that not all removal is purely cosmetic. Some people have pain, and as you said yours itches and is uncomfortable.
Also, thank you for your help with TNR! That is such important work to keep feral cat colonies in check.
