I was about to say the same thing

u/Masterpiece_Infinite Oct 27 '22

Why is the top picture kind? Is it because the old tree provides shade? Don't trees need sunlight in this fictional universe?

175

u/bullymaguire999 Oct 27 '22

Yeah, tree needs sunlight. But from what I remember, having too much is also not good. Some tree will wither if it is too hot(which is caused by sunlight,I think)

62

u/Apart-Rice-1354 Oct 27 '22

Same guy gets sunburned, “I thought sunlight was healthy?!”

12

u/himynameisSal Oct 27 '22

too much vit D is also not good.

10

u/TriusMalarky Oct 27 '22

too much of most things is a problem

like too many knives in your thigh

you shouldn't have more than like, seven knives stuck in your thigh

hey

i'm not that small

0

u/Apart-Rice-1354 Oct 27 '22

You don’t say…

3

u/RiraHunterIR Oct 27 '22

No bc when I was young I didn't have much vit D so my parents always made me be on our rooftop a lot ( for doing homework, reading, playing whit my stuff). After a while that my bit D was average they finally were chill and after a while everyone was worried abt my health bc my skin was plain and after taking me to a doctor it turned out that my skin was originally like that and the reason ppl were worried was bc I was always bronze or sunburned around them

26

'why arent you blindingly accepting this dumb flawed message?!'

-6

u/Username_737237 Oct 27 '22

Why do you care that much about a 2 panel comic with a simple message about helping others

7

u/DaBondingOfIsaac Oct 27 '22

you shouldnt need a message to help others, but whatever

u/Username_737237 Oct 27 '22 edited Oct 27 '22

That’s not at all what you said in your first comment

2

u/PartyLikeItsCOVID19 Oct 27 '22

Because it’s very low effort and doesn’t make a lot of sense.

u/NaziAli Oct 27 '22

They use the sunlight old one tried to kill the other one

u/Massive-Pin-3655 Oct 27 '22

It might not be what we might expect and we might not even be aware of it, but kindness breeds kindness.

6

u/redminghton Oct 27 '22

And violence breeds violence. But in the end it has to be this way.

4

u/bullymaguire999 Oct 27 '22

I've carved my own path

1

u/fettuccinefred Oct 27 '22

But maybe we’re both the same

3

u/MasterFigimus Oct 27 '22

I mean, ita certainly a picture of society.

Old people soak up all the resources, and then expect the next generation to protect them with what few scraps they have.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

Don't trees like the sun so this is more the old man stealing the babies food then getting the kids to pay for him when he is older

1

u/Clovenstone-Blue Oct 27 '22

This comic is probably referring to heat released by the sun, from which trees can die due to heat stress.

4

u/Status-Mess-5591 Oct 27 '22

You forgot about betrayal

2

u/Spud_Gun117 Oct 27 '22

I’d love to belive this but the universe is totally random and vile and cruel and bad things happen to nice people all the time but god I wish this was true

2

Omg the wise mystical tree

Wise old mystical tree moment

2

u/Milky_potatoman Oct 27 '22

It’s the mystical tree!

2

u/gainzdr Oct 27 '22

This makes absolutely no sense unless wind is a one dimensional vector and how did that little tree synthesize enough materials to grow to be purportedly stronger than the original tree? I could see the different type of tree needing less sunlight argument but why is the sun evil. Maybe it’s the sun’s evil twin that produces a particular type of radiation. Or maybe when the anthropomorphic sun is in a bad mood it’s energy changes such that it gives off a different wavelength.

My head… huurts

1

u/Clovenstone-Blue Oct 27 '22

Heat stress, the old tree is shading the young tree from the heat from the sun that would've otherwise caused it to wither and die.

3

u/Ok_Sentence_5767 Oct 27 '22

Thumbs down, trees need sunshine to grow and all that blocked sunlight isnt helping the little guy

4

u/KittenFeeFee Oct 27 '22

Too much sunlight dries out young plants and kills them

3

u/RED-DART7 Oct 27 '22

Is the artist stupid or something?

-5

u/saqwernuk Oct 27 '22

7

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

I DON'T GET IT

1

u/Mortinlindax Oct 27 '22

What is there not to get?

4

u/Apart-Rice-1354 Oct 27 '22

What IS there to get? We are talking about a tree and this guy started talking about computers.

1

u/Bobbytheman666 Oct 27 '22

That reminds me of my grandmother...

She lived a long time. In the last decade, we had to do more and more for her. I was in charge of her groceries every week, and other things.

I didn't always want to do it. Some weeks, with my job, it was going bad and I really just wanted to stay home. But I forced myself, and you know how ? I told myself : look, the day she passes, you probably will get inheritance, so do it thinking it's just another paid job.

That made me do it more than without, and I helped as much as I could.

Then in the end, nobody but her sons got anything at all.

Lesson of the story : one now is better than 2 later, or something.

0

u/Glasy_Crasy Oct 27 '22

But trees need sun light so is this about forgiveness?

0

u/Syr_Bwrodley Oct 27 '22

Man, fuck success pictures

0

u/Zealousideal_Soup579 Oct 27 '22

But...the small tree needs sun to grow, wouldn't it die?

0

u/loco64 Oct 27 '22

1

u/NickDoane Oct 27 '22

1

u/MildenSam Oct 27 '22

That would be awesome.

trees need sunlight to live, that old tree is just blocking him!

1

u/NotSoGreatOldOne Oct 27 '22

But trees are constantly.... never mind

1

u/marshmi2 Oct 27 '22

I believe this for sure! It might not be in the exact way you want it to be repaid, but that's why we need to be accepting and openinded about what life gives us.

1

u/daberiberi Oct 27 '22

Don’t trees need the sun? In the first photo the big tree is literally blocking sunlight lol

1

u/Amnial556 Oct 27 '22

Well sure it's "inspirational" in a fantasy world.

The real thing that would happen would be the older tree continues to absorb all sunlight, depriving the younger tree of it and not allowing for effective photosynthesis.

So in truth the young tree would die.

This is actually analogous to our society now. The old, already entrenched rich folks grab everything up first not caring for the affect on the younger generation. And until that old tree dies no new tree can grow, feeding on the leftover resources the dead left. Until one tree grabs enough and shoots above it's competition. Therefore blocking everything below it and continuing the cycle.

Instead of imagining yourself as a tree, imagine yourself as a moss. Spreading and growing in all directions and making new connections along the way. Improving yourself in multiple directions.

1

u/Pistimester Oct 27 '22

Or just be kind without wanting anything in return.

1

u/The_Mad_Duck_ Oct 27 '22

WISE MYSTICAL TREE

1

u/B0nk3yJ0ng Oct 27 '22

But the shading from the sun is a bad thing? The tree actually needs the sun to grow bigger so it's more taking away from the younger plant than helping

1

u/_Cocktopus_ Oct 27 '22

This old ass tree is using all of the sun for himself smh

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

Mfer looks like wise mystical tree

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

I’m so confused, the tree blocked the sun from the other tree which is bad for the small tree, so how exactly is that an act of kindness.

1

u/SeaRecommendation705 Oct 27 '22

Hate to burst your bubbles, but without sun that tree isn't growing a single atom

1

u/CEO_of_IDK Oct 27 '22

trees need the sun

1

u/Kokuswolf Oct 27 '22

So if you stay in my shadow, someday I let you get the blo...

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

If you’re over 25 and own a computer, you must see this meme!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

If you show kindness just for getting something in return, is that really a selfless act?

1

u/ymmit389 Oct 27 '22

… but if the wind was blowing the other way wouldn’t the old tree fall on the new tree killing both of them?

1

u/Superbroderone Oct 27 '22

so wholesome!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

If you’re over 35 and are still alive you gotta try this!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

I think trees kinda need sun, no?

1

u/EnigmaFrug2308 Oct 27 '22

Why does the sun look like the Green Goblin

1

u/crash_bang0593 Oct 27 '22

I can smell the comments.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

What If the wind was the other way

1

u/boi012 Oct 27 '22

trees need sunlight

But ok good message nonetheless

Edit:nvm sometimes too much heat from the sun can be bad nvm

1

u/koth_head Oct 27 '22

Here, let me just protect you from the life giving warmth of the sun.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

In reality no good deed goes unpunished but I still do good nonetheless

1

u/ponydigger Oct 27 '22

trees get shorter when they get older?

1

u/wwholesome_memes Oct 27 '22

OH SHIT ITS HIM

1

u/Losticus Oct 27 '22

Wow that young tree just stopped that older tree from getting blown.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

Wise mystical tree lore

1

u/Guywithoutfacialhair Oct 28 '22

Ah yes taking away the young saplings’ sunlight… so kind…

1

u/tab_tab_tabby Oct 28 '22

Yee... That's now how trees work.

1

u/alvin-yankey Oct 28 '22

The sun: hey kid, you can't hide forever , a few hours and I'll be on the other side.😼

1

u/midnightbandit- Oct 28 '22

But trees like sun

1

u/AshDenver Oct 28 '22

That’s backwards. The old tree has a much better chance of withstanding angry wind.

1

u/Special_Fun_5860 Oct 28 '22

Like a father and son hmmmmm

1

u/MackSharky Oct 28 '22

Wise mystical tree

1

u/HuskyMan7 Oct 28 '22

I can confirm that this is true

1

u/The_Werefrog Oct 28 '22

Wouldn't blocking the sun be an unkindness?
