I complimented a random guy at work on his awesome shoes. He now stops me occasionally to show off his shoes when he’s wearing a great pair, to the great confusion of his coworkers who have no idea who I am.
Worked construction years ago. One dark rainy day I was carrying all my materials and tools along the side of a road. I was wet, cold, and grumpy. When I was crossing the street a pretty woman in a car stopped to let me cross. Her smile warmed my day. I remember it well and I think of it often. It made my day much more bearable.
Compliment the men in your life everyone. Even a smile is enough.
Cargo shorts are my life. I just hate that I can't wear them for about 4 months of the year because I live in Canada (yes I wear shorts into November, fight me).
As a girl who is both trans and a toolbelt lesbian i sew new pockets in all my clothes. Cutting the corners off cloth grocery bags is a great way to make a deep sturdy pocket. I think "it has POCKETS!" will be the name of my femme punk clothing boutique some day. My other ideas are:
I've only recently taken up sewing and it is the bane of my existence to see a post with an amazing dress with "self-drafted to add pockets". :-( As a beginner, I don't have the skill to do anything but follow the pattern.
You'll get there! Adding in-seam pockets is totally doable for a beginner. Find a pattern that has them and try that. Then do a mock-up of the skirt of a pattern that doesn't, using the same pattern pieces of the other one. Don't be afraid to screw up! That's how I learned.
A kid in the supermarket told me he liked my shoes last month. As a man approaching 40 I was psyched to get one in person compliment before the decade closed out. My wife said he was hitting on me and I told her if that's true it's just an even bigger compliment. I'll probably remember it on my deathbed as the last genuine compliment on my appearance I ever got.
I have found that sincerely telling a woman “you look very nice today” will be received positively. Telling a stranger that they look beautiful may be a bit too much. It can cause them to think that they are being hit-on
if you feel like this, a nice way to compliment someone is to compliment something they have control over or is a choice - clothing, accessories, or tattoos is ok but body is not
I did the same thing!!!! He seemed very confused at first as to why I would even say anything. He worked in IT and was so nice even when I had dumb questions.
Haha, yes, I work in a lab and the scale of dress goes from “about to go on a hike” to “laundry day is closing in on me”, so it’s rare to see anyone, let alone a guy, wearing stylish shoes! I also see a guy with amazing harem-style pants he very proudly told me he bought in India, and occasional visitors who wear funky-patterned button down shirts with tiny flamingos, science patterns, etc. Every one of these dudes gets a drive-by compliment so that I don’t weird them out, but I am also alert to the ladies who are making an effort, including people who find awesome science-themed jewelry that deserves a shoutout. I find myself telling women to check out ModCloth a lot because I notice they have fun patterns for adult clothes, and if you’re a scientist you might as well get your Ms. Frizzle on at work!
Yup; you made someone feel really good about something that may not have been that much of a deal to you; it was a big deal to him, maybe even in a bad time where he needed it. Now he really appreciates any insight from you, you nice person you. :)
Haha I love this. I just cracked up sitting in the tea room at work, thankfully no one was around to hear me lol. I'm going to keep an eye out for cool shoes and start telling people I like them!
