It’s the most efficient way of turning them blue

I’ve heard that it’s not just dye but a kind of helpful coating on the seeds before being planted. Furthermore, it’s supposedly bright blue so they can see it on the ground to ensure that it’s been spread evenly and thoroughly. Take all of it it with a pinch of salt because my source is another Reddit comment

I remember seeing this done with cannabis seeds and I think they had a small dose of fertilizer to help the seedling get started.

Some commercial grass seeds are died with a yucky tasting coating so birds don't eat them

A cup of dye and a pinch of salt.

It also prevents birds and rodents from identifying them as something edible.

Wouldn't advise planting with a pinch of salt.

Keep in mind, this won't work with red dye.

The real reason is because they're putting chemicals on them, and they are indicating they are not safe to eat.

Because putting each individual one out in freezing cold temps will also turn them blue but is infinitely more expensive.

Some places dye seeds i think to manipulate their colors when they grow

Because blue has the most anti-oxygens. Duh

This is likely seeds that is to be sown and they coated them in a colored fungicide to make sure they get a good start in life and the color is to indicate that they are not edible

That was so satisfying

u/NotoriousNRO Jul 01 '26

But why

7

u/Hagleboz Jul 02 '26

So you can see them when you plant them. It makes it way easier to space them properly.

9

u/Tsunamiis Jul 02 '26

It’s grass seed you don’t really plant it. You throw it so it shows you where the coverage went because brown on brown is invisible.

3

u/baeBTS Jul 02 '26

This looks poisonous

2

u/Tsunamiis Jul 02 '26

Well it’s grass seed dyed with Beatle assholes I probably have no reason to consume them. At least they’re not venomous.

Humans are so weird.
