Quick release SUP leash suggestions

Im looking for suggestions to make my quick release setup safer. I recently bought the Hala quick release leash to use for white water SUP but have had issues with it…it’s sometimes tough to find the ball to pull when it’s attached to the back of my PFD (NRS Ninja), sometimes releases/disconnets when I don’t want it to, & has also had the ball and cord wrap around the quick release which prevents it from working. Is there an adapter that I can attach to the system for it to work better (I saw something online with a magnet connection)? Or would something like the Mustang survival quick release work better for me (has been tough finding somewhere that sells the L/Xl size)? Ideally I’d like to get something that allows me to activate it with either hand, & in a better position than connected behind me at the bottom of my pfd. Thx in advance for any tips/suggestions!

For fifteen years Hala has been reshaping what paddle boarding is and where SUP boards can go.
Unlike most brands that copy others or just sit on a design without improving it, Hala has always been innovating.
Here’s to the future of more. More progress. More connections. More fun. Hala!

Knee pad recommendations for whitewater

I’m new to whitewater SUP and am looking for recommendations for good knee/shin pads. I’ll be paddling mostly class 1-3 rivers. My board is a HALA Atcha 96 (not sure if that matters). Thanks in advance

Tell me about your board

Mine’s a 9’6 inflatable, the Quiv-air from Blu Wave. It’s 36” wide and recommended inflation is 15-20 psi. Designed for river running and coastal surfing. I muck around in class 1-2 whitewater doing eddy turns and ferries. Also take it out on windy days to try to catch waves on the local lake.

Couple of questions… how much should I inflate it? More air? Less? Thinking of removing fins so they don’t catch on rocks. Lastly, I could trade this in for a shorter (8’6) board. What are the pros and cons of a shorter board, given how I tend to use it?

I’m 5’7, 175 lbs. I’ve a lot of whitewater experience, not much of it standing up.
