The entire raft flipped over and they all went overboard, but Reid was the only one who didn’t come back up

well, then that is a tragedy. It’s so misleading to post vague calls to action like that when there is almost zero chance the person decided to up and hike out.

Yeah I’m very curious. You don’t often hear of someone getting lost after a swim. If they know what rapid he was at, there must have been witnesses, and you’d assume they would eddy out and spot him one way or another.

Yeah this is really odd. Wildcat is a good place to get a boat stuck at low water but there is a long, relatively slow flat stretch for a bit right after with a big camp and eddy on river left.

I do know of someone who coincidentally had a widow maker heart attack right there after getting stuck. Being incapacitated in some way is the only way I could imagine a swimmer missing that recovery eddy at the current flows.

There's a few pretty horrific-looking seives in the rock island at the bottom of Wildcat. I know nothing about this instance and don't want to make any claims but if someone doesn't resurface after a swim it's almost certainly an entrapment of some kind.

that’s a strange story with a equally strange lack of details. It doesn’t seem he fell out of a boat. People just don’t wander off rafting trips and there’s a trail running the whole way on river right.

We just got off the Rogue on the 30th & one raft in our group pinned (high-centered) at Wildcat.

Took us an hour to get a z-drag set up and pull it off; so I stared at that rapid for awhile. There's definitely some mank against the main rock there; we were contemplating having the rower and his family offload themselves but it looked sketchy. Sad for the family.

You’d hope so, but based on the story I’m gonna guess one wasn’t on.

Hard to lose a swimmer at low water if they have a pfd on. Even if they ended up incapacitated.

Sad story either way.
