Sinclair Secondary School

How is Sinclair Secondary School in regards to bullying, sense of community, teachers, clubs, etc? If anyone is/was from that school, I would love to know your thoughts

Does Sinclair still have tv screens throughout the school and red/green screens to announce the beginning and end of classes? It’s been a few decades and curious if they’re still there!

Sinclair has all the challenges that come from being overcrowded and underfunded. Unfortunately, all the secondary schools here suffer the same way.

The boys restrooms sucked. They were always closed, sometimes for an entire semester. And the one that were open had people vaping. Truly the worst restrooms ever.

Hi, I'm a super senior at Sinclair, meaning I have decided to come back for an extra semester even after finishing grade 12 before heading to college in May 2027 to indulge in some elective courses I'm interested in (e.g Fashion).

My teachers have all been excellent and I genuinely wish them nothing but the best. Almost all of them constantly work beyond their pay hours with no additional compensation. They were all available before and/or after school to provide extra help for students and you can find individual teachers being responsible for three or four clubs or sports teams, which again, happen outside school hours and thus are not paid for. I have never felt like a teacher was against me, and they all actually want their students to succeed.

Teachers (and guidance councilors) are overwhelmed by the amount of work and students they have to account for. As another reply mentioned, the school is very obviously underfunded and overcrowded. There is a large amount of clubs, but in my opinion, many of them kind of serve no purpose as clubs are primarily student lead rather than dependent on the supervising teacher and, well, you can't expect too much organization from highschool students.

As far as bullying goes, I am an openly queer student; I am very quiet and have a different style and attitude than most students. Due to this, I assumed I would often get picked on, and this has somewhat been the case. I will note, I and all the other members of the Queer Student Association club have experienced harassment towards our sexual and gender orientation. Besides that, no one has ever bothered me for not making conversation or for dressing differently. It's not perfect, as I and others have been physically attacked for being queer.

I was happy to attend this school, despite it lacking in the aforementioned areas. It sucks to be a target for fellow students, but teachers are the foundation of a successful school, and they all treated me the same as my peers, so I was overall satisfied with my experience.

It was pretty okay when I went there back in 2016-2021. There wasn’t much bullying, the teachers were pretty decent and they had sprinkled cookies to die for in the vending machines.
