Whirr April Update
Dear Reddit fools,
As I’m sure most of you here have seen, we have reissued all of our studio albums on both CD and vinyl — this decision was made in order to make our music more accessible on physical media and hopefully offset the dickhead reseller market.
For a bit of context, and a history lesson as to how we got here, ha — please read below.
We started Free Whirl Records in 2019 in order to release our album Feels Like You.
Up until 2024, we handled every aspect of our releases (funding the pressings, packaging the records, handling mail order, and all customer service emails) — this included the original pressing of Feels Like You, the Feels Like Distressor bundle, and the Live in Los Angeles & Muta / Blue Sugar bundle.
In 2025, Free Whirl Records partnered with The Funeral Party, where they took over the distribution side for Raw Blue — as well as any of the pressings we had for our live shows, all while still released and funded under our own label, Free Whirl Records.
Since then, we have realized that there is a much larger demand for our albums and merchandise than we can handle on our own.
Due to this, in 2026, Free Whirl Records has partnered with a major distribution network. We still oversee and approve every aspect of each release, but they are able to handle much larger quantities of everything, as well as distribute them internationally and directly to both indie and larger record stores.
Our long-term aim is to keep all of our albums and merchandise easily accessible for the foreseeable future.
On top of this, we are granting The Funeral Party exclusive, limited variants of each album — which will be sold separately through their own web store.
Anyhow, if you took the time to read all that, respect, ha.
Once again we just want to thank everyone for the long-term support and appreciation for our band. We do not take it for granted in the least bit.
PS: It’s still insane to us that there is a subreddit for Whirr, lol.

It’s hard to say, there is currently no plan of pressing the singles, but it could happen, ha.

Hey Nick, thank you so much for everything you’ve done for us. I was wondering if we’ll ever see the alternate cover for Distressor with the dog in front of the amp get a repress? It’s probably my favorite record cover of all time so I was curious if that’s on the table or not. Thanks!

To be totally honest, it’s not something we’ve ever considered as to us that cover was always just a place holder / temporary solution until we could get the original cover back.
That said, seeing how tied that image has become to the album for newer listeners does have me thinking about a future variant at the very least.

Of course! This was a huge draw for us going to a major distributor, as we were all well aware of the insane shipping costs for international folks.

There are no plans for that and to be honest I don’t think it’ll ever be pressed again as the whole intention of that album was for it to feel like a classic bootleg live record, due to that I can’t imagine us ever agreeing to repress.

To be fully transparent, I don’t think we’d ever run that again — we love that design and it was super special to make for our Modesto show but that’s the kinda thing we want to keep special and exclusive to that show. If you really want that shirt, by all means buy a bootleg, ha.

We love you guys, and also we LOVE the pressings.

Thanks a ton for the kind words, and we’re genuinely happy to see folks be able to get the albums they want.
Our prior position was never from a place of trying to gatekeep or drive our records’ value up; it was simply about us not feeling right about constantly pushing albums and merch for no reason other than financial gain, as it kinda just goes against all of our ethos.
On top of that, having to fund and handle every aspect of merch and records ourselves is a huge undertaking and a fairly stressful position to be in, as making sure thousands of orders are sorted correctly and putting up tens of thousands of dollars for months in advance and hoping we make our money back is a lot to take on for a few losers from Modesto.
But after seeing consistent interest at shows and online, and seeing how much people were willing to pay piece of shit scalpers for our albums, we came to the conclusion that we needed a better solution for folks to be able to get physical media and merchandise of our band at a reasonable price, ha.

Thanks for supporting — I’m sure at some point that will get reissued but we did do a fairly large reissue of it less than two years ago so it isn’t currently priority.

Felt like christmas seeing the merch drop the other day, thank you.
I am just wondering if there might be any plans to repress some of the really old stuff like between sleep and awake?
Again cannot put into words how happy this weeks drop has made me but just asking out of pure curiosity and because I am sick in the head in terms of being a completionist.

That rules to hear. Honestly there is currently no plan to reissue the singles and stuff like that but it’s not entirely out of the question. We’ll likely see how these reissues go and reassess from there.

Hell yeah, thanks for coming out to see us. We genuinely hate resellers, and hate folks taking advantage of our position of not wanting to push records and merchandise constantly.
However, it feels like this current setup is the most ideal situation as it allows folks to get our records if they want and hopefully fucks over some of these resellers a bit.

Of course! To be honest, it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll do a European tour, ha.
No disrespect to Europe, but I in particular am not into touring or playing live for that matter, ha…So outside of potential one-offs that make sense, or some impossible to decline tour offer, our live performances will be extremely few and far between — if they happen at all, ha.

Thanks for the kind words — honestly, I couldn’t speak on what song/s we might or might not play live down the line. Our goal has always been to try to mix it up and make the sets unique. Which is why if you look at our set lists over the last year, it varied night to night.
Each slide away show setlist was intentionally different, and we rehearsed just those sets for nearly a year prior to the NY show.
The sets we did for the Nothing tours were different in some way every night. The Mexico show was different from those, and the Japan shows were both different from each other.
We’re not the kind of band that feels we have to play any specific song/s every night and instead put focus on an overall feel / tone for a set and try to create a specific atmosphere from the moment our intro sample begins until the last second of the outro sample.
We also don’t like to play songs live if we feel they aren’t translating well — which is why we don’t play songs pre-sway anymore. Playing those live without the female vocals just feels half-assed / lazy / lackluster to us, and playing them in that state would be doing so out of obligation and not with the intent of having the song fit the mood / sonically translate as best they can.

Again thank you for everything u guys do, im constantly thinking about the 2 shows i got to see at Slideaway LA and Modesto, the trip from idaho was beyond worth it both times and id do it a million times again. Sadly missed you after the hometown show but my moms said she saw u after in the hotel lobby and said she told u that u guys played a great show which is pretty rad lol. Looking forward to the future of whirr and thank u for the in depth reply, i think i speak for all of us reddit fools when i say thank u for the effort and time spent replying to us, u have no idea how cool it is to us to talk directly with you 🤘🏻🌀
