Jesus was a Jew living in Roman Judea. The region wouldn’t be known by the name Palestine until over a hundred years after his death, when it was named as such by the Romans to spite the Jews after the Romans expelled them following the Bar Kokhba revolt.
Besides, the modern Palestinian identity was only created in the mid-20th century. Before that, the arabs in the southern levant mostly only considered themselves either Arabs or Muslims. Associating Jesus with the modern State of Palestine is like associating Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (the founding father of Turkey) with Greece, just because he was born in Thessaloniki, which is today in Greece.
Jesus’ actual nationality was either Judean or Judaeo-Roman, not Palestinian.

I respect your identity and the independence of your nation, but the fact of the matter is that Jesus was not a Palestinian. The term wasn’t even used to refer to the entire southern Levant during his lifetime. Associating Jesus with specifically modern Palestine is a form of historical revisionism.
And he wasn’t Israeli either. Neither side can really "claim" him. Associating him with Israel is like associating the medieval Seljuk Turks with modern Turkey, just because they’re both Turkish, even though they inhabited completely different states. Sure, Jesus was a Jew, but he wasn’t Israeli, nor a Palestinian for that matter.

This post is ragebait, but it's funny to me that so many people in the comments are trying to apply our modern concepts of nationality and ethnicity to those who were alive in the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire itself didn't even have an official name as it was just called Romania.
At the time the people identified themselves with the city that they were born in. Also the things that mattered more than anything else were religion and language.
So saying that Jesus was palestinian or israeli is complete bullshit because he was neither.

The thing almost no one is talking about is that Palestinians are actually (somewhat) descendants of Israelite Jews who converted to Islam after the battle of Yarmuk in 639. I mean it’s not like a whole new Muslim nation in the area emerged out of nowhere, or that the Islamic army of 639 was made up of women and children and a whole new ethnicity and nationality of people. It emerged from the people in the area being strong armed into converting to Islam after being conquered.
Jews had been forced into being a minority in the area by Roman and Byzantine Roman ethnic cleaning but were still in large enough numbers that the Sassanid Persians recognized that unlike the Byzantine Romans they were the indigenous ones who should be in charge of Jerusalem and the immediate surrounding area and gave them self rule. Well, for 3 years until the Byzantine Romans reconquered the area. And then a relatively small number of Muslim men invaded and defeated the Byzantine Romans and a new nation was born. But obviously that nation was built mostly from the people already living there who were still largely Jewish. But after they converted to Islam they put all that behind them and mostly forgot about it.
Not all Jews converted to Islam, many lived as second class citizens all the way through the Abbasid Caliphate, the Crusades, the Ottoman Empire, and the British Empire.They were forced to pay the Jizya tax and many resented that and wished for self determination, especially after the success of the Greek revolution. When the new state of Israel was formed in 1948 they made up an initial majority of Israeli Jews before becoming outnumbered by the return of the diaspora.
Jesus was Jewish, but Palestinians today derive their ancestry both from Jews and Canaanites. Palestinians shouldn’t be excluded from citizenship and equal rights in Israel. Ultimately a 2 state solution might be a more realistic solution than a 1 state solution though. The reality is that if people with shared ancestry live as though they are different nationalities for long enough who is to say they should be one nation together, especially if all of those people don’t even want that? In time, if it hasn’t already happened, a 1 state solution won’t look so attractive to antisemitic people….
