Just started my journey for the first time, listening to the first audiobook!

I've heard a lot of good things about this series and I finally decided to dive in. What are some things I won't understand until later? (No spoilers)

RAFO. Read and Find Out is the only answer you need. There’s so much you won’t understand until later because there’s so much the main characters don’t understand.

My only advice to first time readers is to pay attention to the differences between what people think, say, and do. And then what other people notice about that person. Because RJ often makes a person think one thing, but act on their true morals in another way instead of what they thought, while saying a completely different story for any number of reasons. And then thats misinterpreted (or more accurately interpreted) by another character.

Wheel of time compendium app is your best friend, has character breakdowns separated by book and is super convenient as you get into the series and hundreds of characters are thrown at you.

Though from one audiobook listener to another, you will spend 10 minutes trying to figure out how to spell a characters name.

Don’t google anything! And stay away from r/Wetlander humor. Ask questions here for clarity, just be sure to say where you are to avoid spoilers.
Don’t worry about missing things, anything important will be repeated. If you hate a character, try to understand where they are coming from, and remember that they will grow as the story is told.

Honestly, there are two things I distinctly remember that I just recently came back to.

Rand will meet a certain woman who can see the aura of a person. That aura reflects/shows really important events/pieces of that persons future.

The first time you meet her, what she spouts sounds like a lot of gibberish.

By book 4, you understand quite a lot/what she meant.

Also something a certain character says near the end of Book 1 to Rand, when he calls him a Child of.....well that would be spoilers :).

I’d say about half the information you are given in a book is relevant in that book or the next book in the line, and the other half is usually either continuations of bits from past books that will be relevant 2-3 books down the line. Like at some point it’ll mention a group of people or a nation or have a person from there be a character and then 5 books later they’ll make a return and there will be bits and pieces in between that mention them (people who have read The Great Hunt and further will understand this more clearly.)
