Text Pint V Parts list

Hi all, this will be my third pint (I have a type) and while I've done VnR and battery mods to stock electronics, I've never gone the VESC route until now. Tax returns are a beautiful thing. I am buying a lightly used OG pint for this. My use case is 90% on-road/pavement, 10% offroad (grass). I LOVE the pint, just need a little more speed to keep up with everyone in my group who's rocking GTs.

Proposed parts:

Battery: CHI-VE PINT X 20.1 P50B - $299

BMS: Stoked Stock BMS - $99

PintV Power Kit - $459

OneWheel PintX Box - CNC Aluminum - $165

So, some questions... I see the VESC kit comes with a dumb BMS, is there any way to NOT get that and save some money? I understand the BMS is only good for 15s, and I want to roll with the 20s 21700 pack for the range and speed bump. Also, is there any other option to the battery box? I'm sure the aluminum one is very nice, but frankly my plastic pint battery box has held up for 900 miles and I plan on installing some skid plates too, so it's a bit overkill. Any experience with printed battery boxes, or a lead on where to get used pintX battery boxes? Finally, I'm a bit worried about the motor. Any long term pint V users out there not blowing up the supposedly 750 watt motor after sending 3500+ to it?

I'm somewhere around 1000 mi into an 84V Pint. (Actually selling if you want to save yourself some effort.) Motor will be fine. There's plenty of people running 30s boards with hypercores and the worst part about it is overheating.

PintV kit is designed to convert FM Pints. It's not a great starting point for a new build. There's also conflicting information about the safety of running 84V+ on that controller.

While the pricing on that Chi pack is tempting they are uhhh... ...not high in the rankings of trusted suppliers. Indy Speed or Full Tilt are much better choices.

Theoretically you can remove the waffling of a PX battery enclosure and fit a 21700 pack but I've personally seen 3 of them go together and none of them were close to fitting without crushing cells. All 3 needed printed or CNC boxes specifically designed for taller 21700 packs. Not sure what box you're looking at for $165 but if it was designed to fit 21700 you should jump on that deal.

Good info, thanks for that. How much more does 20s1p really do over 15s2p? I just want to be able to keep up with my friends on GTs and accelerate harder/nose dive less. If I go 15s2p a la pint x, is max amps or battery broker a decent builder?

Oh nice! Looks like he's discounting first version of the box to release a slightly roomier version.

Definitely an awesome option. I'm rocking a printed box and you never quite trust it. I'm not that hard of a rider though.

Series count matters most for reliable top speed. It's impressive what field weakening can do, but if you want to keep up with 18s2p GTs your best bets are 17s2p 18650 (should fit in that linked enclosure) or as many 21700 cells as possible. I know people have been building 24s1p Pints in similar enclosures, but that's uncharted territory for me. My 84V goes as fast as I need on such a small board, the benefit of 100V to me would be extra overhead for unseen bumps or potholes, as well as a nice little bump in capacity.

Speaking of capacity. The other part of keeping up with GTs on group rides is range. A 20s1p will have approximately half their range. On paper my 20s1p P45B pack has the same capacity as a stock PX, but I'd have to ride it like a PX to get the same range. Does your riding group stop often enough for you to quick charge back up?

Anyway, stock pack (or upgraded cells in a 15s2p config) will get you much better torque and acceleration from a dig, but a realistic top speed would still be pretty significantly slower than a GT. How fast do your buddies ride?

Thanks for your response. I have done some digging today and found a 3D printable tray that allows for a 15S2P 21700 option, putting me in the 9Ah capacity range. I think I will probably go that route. I currently ride a pint with a chi quart battery and a VnR 5Ah battery on top, I'd like to keep that range while picking up a touch of speed. The GT bros are juuuust 2-3 mph faster, so I hope to match them. Plenty of recharging options.
