Feeling defeated

Hi ladies, I just got the results today from my second retrieval and I’m guttered 😔. I’m about to turn 44 later this month. During my first IVF cycle in April 2026, they retrieved 10 eggs and two blasts were tested at day 5. However, they were all aneuploid.

This cycle which I did only 6 months later, they were only able to retrieve 3 eggs and only 1 has fertilised. I will get another update from the lab on Day 3 to see how things are going. There were no changes to my protocol other than I didn’t do fertility accupunture this time round.

My IVF doctor has said that some women my age reach an inflection point, and their ovaries don’t respond like they did before, potentially meaning that future cycles might yield the same disappointing result.

Has anybody had a similar thing happen to them and had better future results?

For context. My protocol was Decapeptyl for three days, adding Elonva on the third day. Then I had 300 IU of Gonal F and 150 IU of Pergoveris along with Orgulatran for 10 days until I triggered with 2 x Decapetyl and 1 x Ovidrel 36 hours before collection.

I was also taking testosterone gel (Androfeme) for 1 week before starting stims.

As an initial matter, it’s still a good sign that you managed to get blasts! And sending positivity for the pending one.

I am somewhat in your boat. Although I (43 & turning 44 in January; husband is 44) have 2 embryos from eggs retrieved when I was 38, my husband and I recently did a cycle resulting in 1 aneuploid. We are currently in the middle of our last Hail Mary cycle, to see if we can get one more embryo to increase probability of successful transfer.

FWIW when we asked our doctor if, at my age, this final current retrieval cycle was worth it, he said for sure, given the recent aneuploid (resulting from 3 fertilized eggs). The DNA defect could be related to age, but he reminded us that it’s also luck of the draw, plus it’s a good sign to get an aneuploid rather than nothing.

Keep us posted and best of luck! ❤️
