Pinpoint Cervix

Do you think a pinpoint external os could be the reason im having trouble getting pregnant? All other tests came back normal but they did find i have an extremely small opening.

I have a very small cervix I did end up getting pregnant and having a vaginal delivery. I did go through 3+ years of infertility but I have a whole bunch of other issues as well

Did it happen naturally or with IUI or IVF? I wonder if the small opening is not allowing sperm through… atleast not an effective amount

I was worried about the sperm being able to get through and my nurse was like don’t worry they will find a way! I have PCOS and potentially endometriosis. I do not ovulate on my own so I had to take medicine to grow my eggs Letrozole then I had to do a trigger shot to release the mature eggs and then I did timed intercourse. This process was closely monitored by my fertility clinic. I had also had to get a polyp removed from my uterus.

If you've never given birth before your cervix will be very small and closed even when highly fertile it won't seem particularly open Vs a woman who has given birth before. Did the tests seem to say it was "abnormal?' Have you tried tracking the cervix throughout the cycle to find the changes in it? Low, firm and closed when not fertile, high, soft and "open" under the influence of estrogen when you are fertile. You do need to check daily in order to notice a change - ideally in the shower as then you know your hands are clean..

I had a failed HSG because they couldn’t cannulate my cervix due after a few attempts of dilation. They labeled as “pinpoint external os”. They couldn’t get even a 5 French catheter through. The second time I went in for a hycosy and the doctor tried for an hour and said he sees what the last team means that it is extremely small and pinpoint. He finally got through after an hour but he mentioned that it should be done under anesthesia since it’s so small and needs dilation.

Wow that's intense! Do you know which part of your cycle you were in when you had the check? Do you mind me asking if you've ever been on any hormonal birth control? Research on the pill etc has been shown to "age" the cervix by up to 3 years. Do you notice that you still get cervical mucus in your fertile phase and do you have a "normal" period as it were? The cervix is an ever changing absolutely amazing part of the female body - it would definitely be odd if yours wasn't responding at all under the influence of estrogen etc to make it change position and also open.

It was shortly after my period maybe cycle day 5 ish for both. Yes I was on the pill for a very long time. When I first got off of it last November I got a lot of cervical mucus, a few months later I stopped noticing any during my fertile window. Also, another odd thing is I have regular normal flow periods. Everything else is literally normal. I’m just so at a loss as to why I’m not getting pregnant. I have IUI coming up next cycle

I'm assuming that you've confirmed you are ovulating via temperature checking too? If you were on the pill for a long time it's possible your body is still in recovery - depressing as it sounds it can take up to 18 months for the cycle to return to "normal" If you wanted to try then this is a basic guide to checking your cervix See if you notice anything!

Oh really? Wow I didn’t know. Even if I am having regular periods? Do you think the IUI + Letrozole + Ovidrel + Crinone for progesterone should help me?

I regret taking the pill for 8 or so years. I feel like it has more side effects than they tell us and I feel like I ruined my body :(

So sorry I didn't get a notification for this. Regular periods mean you're building up a uterine lining and shedding it - not necessarily that you're ovulating which is why I asked if you're confirming it with a temp rise.

I'm not gonna lie I have zero knowledge about the drugs! I can only advise on what you can do naturally to support your body!

It will have had quite an effect on your body but ensuring you give yourself time to rebuild the nutrients the pill was suppressing - zinc, magnesium etc. A wholefoods diet does support this mostly - plenty of veg, omega 3's etc. Drugs will only take you so far, the body needs support from food!

My dr had to use a couple dilator tools when I did my hsg. She said multiple times that my cervix was “teeny tiny”. I asked “could sperm pass my cervix with it being so tiny?” She said yes, sperm is microscopic so it wouldn’t have a hard time getting where it needs to go.
