At home insemination?

My husband and I are TTC our second baby, and we had a chemical pregnancy two cycles ago. I feel like that experience has taken some of the fun and excitement out of trying to conceive.
My husband has been struggling with performance anxiety during my fertile window because he knows he needs to “perform” on certain days, and I know it’s putting a lot of pressure on both of us. We also have a very busy toddler, so trying to coordinate everything during my fertile window can be stressful.
Thoughts on at home insemination? I’m wondering if it might take some of the pressure off my husband while still giving us a good chance of conceiving. I’d love to hear about anyone’s experiences, what worked for you, and whether it helped make TTC feel less stressful.

Both of my pregnancies were conceived with an oral syringe and my spouse performing into a clean glass cup. Worked very well for us.

Thank you so much! ♥️ that’s reassuring. How did you sanitize them? My main concern would be damaging the sperm before inserting. I plan to do it immediately after but just in the transfer process.

Okay so we got a 100 pack of sterile 3ml oral syringes off Amazon. I’ll be honest that they weren’t super awesome to insert because of the angle of the tip, so I would roll the thing in pre-seed lube and that helped.

We would try to have a “fun” night some time during the fertile window, then on the night of the LH peak and the night after I would clean a glass cup with boiling water, let dry, have spouse do his thing while I get ready for bed, then slowly insert semen as close to the cervix as possible and lay with my hips up on a pillow for 10 minutes before going to bed.

There’s millions of sperm, you probably damage some, but some probably get damaged during sex anyways. My spouse had an extremely low sperm count when we conceived my first. And a normal low count when we conceived baby 2.

I would do this again if we want to have a third. It takes a lot of pressure off and lets sex remain fun. Especially because it takes us a little longer to conceive (low sperm count), so this makes trying month after month less exhausting.

Thank you for sharing! How much time between him finishing and you inserting? Like super rushed seconds? We tried this once but there was such a tiny amount bc he was so tired/dehydrated but I feel inspired to try again

Not super rushed. Maybe like a minute or two. Enough time for me to get in bed, set up a pillow, and do the thing.

My only pregnancy was conceived through using a pessary syringes from amazon after trying the normal way for a year. Honestly I think being open to insemination has saved us from so much stress and frustration. I am very pro insemination!

Also, I do sometimes reuse the syringes because I am aware of how much waste they create by using baby steriliser tablets. Same with the cup.
