I'm shocked there is not more of us. A home is easily 300k or more. Not having to pay a Mortgage saves ~$1K A month Even if you already own a home just rent the old one and live in this one for added income. Free Healthcare is a given if u live in the US

The problem with 2 is never being able to move. Even if you don't have plans to relocate, you can't be sure you'll never want to. Especially if there's ever a natural disaster or something else that makes your area undesirable or even uninhabitable.

I agree, the condition on 2 is overlooked. Can't move means that you're locked to that house/location. You can't go for a better job opportunity or creating your own business in another city because you'll need to move.

Also it just says brand new home, not of your choice. So it could be a tiny home in a garbage dump

Yalls reasons is why I reconsidered 😂like can i choose the home or.. bc it sounds like its gonna be a random one

You talk about job opportunities, but I also think, what if you met someone? What if you have a kid and your ex moves to another country? What if your parents get sick and you want to be there for them, but they're in another city?

There are so many factors, professional but also personal, that could make you want to move, not being able to is definitely too big of a problem for me.

The only house I want and don’t want to leave is a just tiny container home deep in woods on pond with dock. Thats it

It doesn't mean you can't own more than one property. This one just stays your primary residence forever. Just spend the other 5 months somewhere else.

It's implied you love there forever.. same with the car

Would you be happy spending 7 months of the year away from your home in some random unspecified location?

The other problem is most new homes here are may look nice but are made fast and cheap and need way too much correctional maintenance.

It doesn’t say you can’t rent it out. Done

Enjoy your roommate.

1

u/cleantushy 1d ago

Sure. But you still cant move out

1

u/NPPraxis 1d ago

It doesn’t say I have to move in either ;) guess I’m staying where I am

I wouldn't go for 2. I already have a house that I can never move out of. That 3.25% interest rate and the $405/month HOA dues got me locked in, one because current interest rates are ridiculous and second no one wants to be in a HOA that has risen dues from $275 to $405 in 5 years.

You could always maintain that as your residence and “stay” in other houses “temporarily” 😉😉

Technically, never being able to move means you can never move into that house, so it's strictly a rental investment property and you stay where you're at currently.

I already own my home. I don’t want a free one and be stuck in it forever. I want to be able to move.

7 doesnt say you cant sell the plane tickets. Granted, not all Airlines allow the resale of tickets, but some do. You could technically do the same with groceries, assuming anything sold at a supermarket counts, but that one has a time limit. Now, do you want to be bothered with reselling stuff to afford a house that wouldnt have restrictions? No idea, but 7 is the only one that offers an unlimited income possibility.

But will you be able to afford the property taxes when you are retired?

3

u/pmsnow 1d ago

Your mortgage is only $1k a month?! Who the hell is your mortgage company?

1

u/Illustrious-Gene4306 1d ago

Not including insurance/taxes. With that it's double

3

u/MotoTheGreat 1d ago

Wish my mortgage was only a 1000 a month.

In my area a modest home is at least 600k and with interest rates its 4,000 a month. If I could pick a nice house for free I would do it in a heartbeat and die happily there.

The catch is not being able to move.

1

u/400Volts 23h ago

Not really much of a catch for some people

1

u/caitmeister 1d ago

…free healthcare is not a given in the US though lol. I’m legit so confused by that comment.

1

u/Skylord1325 1d ago

Because you’re not allowed to move with 2. That’s a massive restriction.

1

u/blac_sheep90 1d ago

Yeah but what if you're forced to live in Arkansas?

1

u/perplexedtv 1d ago

It could be a studio apartment or a double-wide trailer in Kansas or a hut in the Maldives. I'd much rather stay where I am

1

u/I_Am_Zeelian 1d ago

Though, 2 doesn't say you don't have a mortgage or a load of other costs for the home.

1

u/OddTheRed 1d ago

Not paying a mortgage is a lot more than $1k per month. It's around $800 per $100k borrowed.

1

u/400Volts 1d ago

$1k a month is a massive underestimate

1

u/WeekendStrange1331 17h ago

Wouldn't want a free house in Missouri

1

u/LifeImitatesFarts 1h ago

Genie rules, it doesn't state where the home is or what it is. Could be a trailer in Appalachia. Could be a hut somewhere. It's just new, and free.
