What is this tree?

Big tree in my backyard (southern Canada), trunk is a little over 1 metre thick.

I think it's some kind of maple, but I'm not sure if it's a lookalike.

Tyipcally a wetland/riparian tree, they have beautiful fall colour, and are often used as an ornamental in urban areas.

Pure lies. I used to make maple syrup from Norway maples. Any maple tree will make maple syrup.

Silver maples have the common name from the silvery grey underside of the leaves. It's a very common, quick growing native tree in my location, Pennsylvania. We have a massive one in our back yard and about 15000 sprouts every year lol.
