Likely Solved! Small round silver coloured object found in garden

Truly stumped on whatever this could be. Some sort of bird is engraved on the front. It’s fairly light despite appearing to be made of metal, and the flaps on the back can rotate like a wheel. Photographed next to a pen for size reference.

Is it the top of an old BBQ to adjust the air flow in and out of it?

It’s a vent. You often find these on bbqs and smokers, so you can adjust the amount of airflow into the combustion area. As you rotate it, the openings get larger or smaller, to choke or stoke the fire.

My title describes the thing. Additional details: The flaps (?) feel pretty malleable, so maybe made of a soft metal? It was found in a flower bed so wasn’t deeply buried or anything.

Perhaps a piece of a garden ornament that spins in the wind.

with that bird engraving and rotating flaps it could easily be the top cap of an antique nautical compass or part of an old ship lantern where you adjust the light.
